Golf Course Update

The April showers seem to be a month late and showing up in May! This is exactly the kind of weather we wanted though. The wet and warm weather has given the seeded areas chance to start germinating. Deer Park is starting to green over nicely.

Scottie from Carrick Sports was also onsite shaping up a bunker for us. As part of the golf course phased works and master plan the bunkers are obviously on there! Scottie wanted to do one for us as soon as possible so we can play around with the different options to use for the base from a drainage perspective. This gives us chance to see what works and does not work for us.

The plan is simple, make the bunker easy to maintain but also set them in postions whereby they can be seen and 'set the hole off'.

We selected the 2nd of Deer Park as the 'guinea pig' for a couple of reasons. It is close to the path so work can be done without causing too much damage. It is also a bunker that does not get much use (we didn't want to do one midseason that would take it out of play and would get a lot of use) and finally it is hard to distinguish that it is a bunker from the fairway.

As you can see from the pictures it already looks a lot better. Over the next few weeks, the outer will be seeded. The base will have drainage installed. As mentioned we want to get the bunkers to the stage whereby they do not flood and constantly have washed out. This won't happen overnight but once we find the best drainage for the ground here at CMGC it will be a win, win for everyone!
