Good day golfers and friends of CMGC.
April looks set to be like March… BUSY BUSY BUSY. The greenkeepers have been busy edging and repairing the bunkers after a harsh winter. A lot of the sand had washed into the corners due to the rain so Adam Clifford and the team have been busy pushing the sand back to where it should be, edging and repairing faces. The greens are also coming back nicely and are due to be rolled Friday. With a bit of dry weather we are confident they will be the best around….. I also did a little bit of twitter research and could not believe the amount of courses in the West Midlands that still had some temporary greens. We have a great team at CMGC, keep up the great work lads!
The Masters
The first major of the year is here with the Masters from Augusta starting today. The CMGC sweep sold out, thanks to everyone who had a go! This week also sees new head coach Phil join us he is on the hallowed turf of CMGC from today! Our Masters predictions…..
Dave - Adam Scott
Matt - Sergio Garcia
Phil - his fellow Ulsterman Rory McIlroy
Tom - Jason Day
Double Roll Up Results
The ever popular double roll up returned to Cleobury Mortimer golf club this past weekend. Despite some rough weather on Friday the course stood up well and it was decided the competition would become a handicap qualifier. Ian Downes and Andy Johnson shot 37 points to finish fourth and fifth. As the saying goes 'beware of the injured golfer' Guy Taylor further cemented this accusation with 38 points to finish third. The day however belonged to two of Cleobury's bright young prospects. Jack Severn shot 39 points to finish second and Alex Barnes shot 40 points to win! Both Alex and Jack have been working hard on their golf over the winter and are now starting to see rewards for their hard work. Both the lads have big plans for this year and I am going to stick my neck out and say by the end of the year they will be both off a handicap of 6 or below!
Emily Price Wins Again
Cleobury Mortimer golf club's Emily Price has once again showed her supreme talent by winning the Shropshire Schools girls golf tournament. Cleobury Mortimer golf club was once again hosting this prestigious tournament with the golf talent of Shropshire descending onto the venue. Emily Price made a mockery of the conditions to shoot a gross 73 which is one over par for the 18 holes…. Yes you read that correctly one over gross off the ladies stroke indexes. Considering there was England international boys on show who shot 71 gross this score really goes show how good Emily is. We are very proud to have Emily a member of Cleobury.
Emily's father Kelvin had this to say 'Emily has been practicing hard all winter and to win this, her first tournament of the year really sets her up for a busy schedule. We will be traveling all over the country this year and hope to be in the mix competing at the top of the leader board in many of them'
Pictured is Emily with tournament organiser and Lacon Childe School head of sport Kristian Wood.
Great to see the next generation of CMGC golfers playing well!
Also a special shout out to Terry Bingham who shot 23 points to win the Wednesday evening roll up. The roll up are open to everyone and are a bit of fun and a social evening. Every Wednesday from 4pm… Just roll up to the golf centre have a game and a few beers after.

Myself and Graham shook hands with John Osman on a new fleet of buggys for the 2014 season. We have blue EZ-GO buggys coming and they are a massive improvement on the existing models. Additional suspension and softer seat for comfort and a smoother drive. Reinforced plastic for more durability and extra hard windows. There will be a slight increase in the price of buggy rental as lithium batteries have massively increased in price.
