Hello once again from the mighty CMGC! Another week literally flies by as we get ever closer to Christmas and December the 1st when Matt goes off for a month and we all get some peace and quiet…. Just joking mate, we will miss you whilst you spend some time with your family!

The temperature has now well and truly dropped just look at what 24 hours can do! Blue sky and sunshine followed by minus 3 temperatures and a winter wonderland!

One thing to consider though is that the course is holding up great…. We never have temporary greens and never close…. CMGC is the ideal winter golf destination. Check out the roll on the greens by clicking here

It is also great to report the Christmas Open is now fully booked along with the members Christmas Party which has also sold out with close to 100 attending. It really is great to see the club thriving!

Competition news

The Mens Double Roll Up at Cleobury offered some of the toughest conditions played in a long time. With a drop in temperature and high winds scoring proved to be very difficult.

On the Saturday Dean Carpenter used all his experience and knowhow to shoot a gross 76 and sit at the top of the leaderboard with 36 points. The conditions on Sunday were a lot more favourable with the winds dying down. Some great front nine scores were shot, however like many times before the toughest nine holes at Cleobury (Deer Park) brought many crashing back down.

Lee Glasby finished with 20 points on Deer Park to snatch 3rd place with a superior back count, from Dean, Terry Clark and Ash Cook. Adam Cook took second place outright with a birdie on the 18th to finish on 37 points, which also sees him extend his lead in the division 2 winter order of merit standings.

The day however belonged to Lewis Hodges who shot a very impressive 40 points. A sterling front nine score of 23 points set him on his way.

Lewis had this to say….

"I drove the ball really well today which set me up, it is quite ironic as my playing partner Adam gave me a tip that professional Sam had given him on his driving which has worked for me and I end up beating him to top spot! The course played great and I look forward to our next event in two weeks at Cleobury".

Final standings.

1st - Lewis Hodges - 40 points
2nd - Adam Cook - 37 points
3rd - Lee Glasby - 36 points (CB)

Coaching news

He's been back in the country in less than a week and he is already getting results!!

"Bob Lucas came to me this week explaining how he has been struggling of late with all aspects of his long game, from getting off the tee confidently to short irons into the green. I was able to look at all these areas of Bob's game in detail and in the on course setting. Together we established the causes for his misses and worked on his technique to get him back to where he knows he can play. The changes were almost instant as we saw in the lesson. Bob left full of confidence and was able to now take this to the course where he scored an impressive 40 points which is 10 more than he did in the competition before the lesson."

Sam's lesson diary is in the CMGC golf centre for bookings call 01299 271 112.

Club news

Hole In 1 Alert

A huge congratulations to Dave Walker who had a hole in one on the 2nd of Badgers Sett off the white tees on Sunday. This was Dave's second hole in one of the year after he aced the 6th of Badgers Sett back in the summer. Dave hit a crisp hybrid on the 171 yard par three which pitched just short and rolled in the hole.

Dave added..

"The hole was playing very long today, we all saw it pitch the green and roll towards the hole but did not realise it had dropped in until we reached the green. I feel very privileged to get two in a calendar year and hope the luck continues".

Reminder!

The rake and place local rule is now in play here at CMGC.

It is a great idea and I know a few other local golf courses have also implemented it.

Course news

December 1st - Hedgehogs are back

After prolonged periods of rain the management of CMGC have decided that from December 1st Hedgehog wheels on trollies will be enforced. The club has introduced this over the last 10 years and it really does make a massive difference come the spring.

Basically the hedgehog dimples stop the skidding on the surface, aerate the surface and allow us to keep trolleys on all year round. The studded 'Hedgehog' design reduces contact with the soil surface by over 75% and glide over the surface leaving little or no impression and therefore inflict little or no damage.

Options...

- Motocaddy and PowaKaddy offer replacement wheels - £69.99
- Covers to go on your wheels - £25 or £30 fitted
- Trolley rental - £3.50 visitors, £2.50 members
