Good day from the one and only CMGC, it has been another great week with the weather holding out and the course looking superb. The top dressing and course maintenance work has completely settled down and the weather for the weekend looks great. We have a members stableford competition this Saturday and Sunday but also for any visitors thinking of playing we have 18 holes and a full English breakfast offer for £30 over the weekend or £25 midweek, great value for a course of this standard.

Golf Show Trip 

This week was the annual Golf Trade Show in Harrogate, the whole golf industry descends to the beautiful Yorkshire city to check out the 2016 products and attend various seminars. We were also approached by Stuburt to work on their stand, offering help and advice to any potential new accounts and also share success stories with how the brand has grown. 

The clothing and shoes have once again stepped up in quality and 2016 sees the introduction of two new shoes and different price points. The event spikeless will be £49.99 and the classic spikeless will be £79.99. Stuburt have also just secured the exclusive rights to use Event Membrane.

They will be offering a no quibble ones year guarantee on the shoes as it is that good. The latest winter boot that we have just taken delivery of has Event in it and for just £60 offers fantastic value.

One question I often get asked is how old is the brand, Stuburt has in fact been around for many years.

The one brand that we did make a decision on that will be coming to CMGC in 2016 is Under Armour. Obviously with the backing of Jordan Spieth and young emerging players like Matthew Fitzpatrick the brand is going to go from strength to strength. The products for 2016 head down a more performance wear approach with the shirts focusing on breathability for warmer temperatures and the tops and jumpers focusing on heat retention. 

  



Dave - Failing to plan is planning to fail! Start thinking about winter now as it will soon be here. Think about your goals for the winter, swing changes, lessons and the most important factor looking good and staying warm. Put some money aside for some new Stuburt winter clothing to stay warm, dry and of course looking sharp out on the course no matter the condition.




Amy - With the weather and seasons changing its time to pop your summer spike less shoes to the back of the wardrobe and dig out your winter shoes fully spiked. This will promote stability through the golf swing and will stop you from slipping on wet ground.



  

Srixon Ball Fitting Day

We are delighted to announce that Srixon are coming to CMGC to offer a limited number of members and friends of CMGC a free ball fitting experience. 

Team Srixon will be onsite here at Cleobury on Wednesday 14th October 2015 between 1pm and 4pm. This event is by appointment only and lasts around 30 minutes. 

The Srixon ball representative will put you through the paces and strive to find you extra yardage by simply using a different golf ball. 

All you need to bring is the current ball you use and a driver and mid range iron.

Ian Dennis Day 

What a day it was for the Ian Dennis Memorial Day. 96 players from around the country came to CMGC to support the day. Everyone involved was very generous with close to £2500 raised. The family hope to add a bench to the course in Ian's memory and support the Civil James charity. 

A big thanks must go to member Alan Preece who got the day off the ground and made it such a success. Fingers crossed this will now become an annual event.

Double Roll Up 

The first winter competition of the 2015/16 season was far from wintery with glorious sunshine greeting the golfers of Cleobury Mortimer. It was a really bizarre day for scoring with a level handicap score of 36 points only good enough for a 17th finish! 

The ever consistent Mike Wood who played in the worst of the conditions with fog set in when he teed of played a storming round to finish on 40 points and take third position. Graham Brittain was once again at it with a sublime score of 41 points, this however was only good enough for second place. Graham has seen a massive improvement in his golf this year and had this to say. 

'I have had five consecutive rounds under my handicap now in competition play and it is all owed to the PING G30 driver. Rob Grier invited me over to Stone and the fitting he gave me was first class. The driver really has been a game changer for me I have never hit the ball so far. I would advise everyone who is struggling with their driving to go and see Rob'. 

The day however belonged to the young protégé Jack Severn who shot a very impressive three under par around Badgers Sett on his way to 42 points. This gave Jack his first ever under par score in a Cleobury competition. Like Graham, Jack is a regular at Stone for all his custom fit golf clubs. 

Director of golf Dave Pain had this to say 'Jack has played a lot of golf away from Cleobury this year representing the county at all levels. He is a great lad with real golf talent and still only 14 years old. He has a big future in the game, remember the name!'

1st - Jack Severn - 42 points 
2nd - Graham Brittain - 41 points 
3rd - Mike Wood - 40 points

Night Golf - Friday 23rd October 

Following on from the huge success of the last night golf on captain's weekend night golf returns! 

The tee off time should be around 7pm but a little difficult to predict at the moment. The sign up sheet is in the golf centre. 

It will be a Texas Scramble played over nine holes. 

Note - there will also be an additional £5 deposit for the head lamps etc which is refunded at the end.

   

Halloween Party 

This has been organised by the club captain and his wife. It would be great to see everyone dressed up. A DJ has been booked, George is also putting some food on. Hope to see you all there for it.
