ClubChampionships Report

What a weekend it was for the 2015 ClubChampionships here at CMGC played over the twodays. It was fantastic to see a packed field ofgolfers all eager to get their hands on one of the most important trophies within the club.

Day One
Day one was played over the Foxes Run and DeerPark loops with the greens staff getting thecourse looking superb with the greens quick andthe pins tucked away. It was always going to bea tightly contested championship that wouldreward the patient golfer.

After day one John Swithenbylead the way in the nett with a two under 67closely followed by Steve Scracewho had a 68. A whole host of players justbehind and in striking distance who knew a goodsecond day would throw them right in the mix. Inthe gross Charlie Edwards shota very impressive 75, Tom Pain shota 74 to also be in contention but day onebelonged toSean Raybould who despite bogeyingthe last, shot a 70 to take a four shot leadinto day two.

DayTwo
Day two was played over the BadgersSett and Deer Park courses in near perfectconditions with glorious sunshine beating downonto the golf course. Despite this, the scoringwas far from outstanding with the pressuregetting to many. Guy Taylorwent under the radar with a nett 69 whichpropelled him into third place overall. JohnSwithenby followed up his openingaround with a 73 to finish level for thetournament and had one hand on the trophy beforePhil Lau, in the second to lastgroup shot the lowest gross of the day to finishtied with John, but a superior second day gavehim the trophy on count back.

In the gross Charlie Edwardsfell away meaning it was between Tomand Sean. After both shot one over par 37's on BadgersSett, Sean was able to break away on Deer Parkto eventually win by 6 from Tom.

Phil Lau had this to say on his win.  'Itis very unexpected. The gross was the one Iwas after but Sean is a great champion. I wonthis 9 years ago and am delighted to win itonce again'

Sean had this to say on his win . 'Ihave only been at the club since April andhave been a member at many courses in the UKand abroad. Cleobury has been by far the mostwelcoming and friendly club out of any other. The course was great and I would also like tothank my playing partners from the two daysfor their great company'.
