Hello once again from the one and only CMGC!
It has been a mixed week with some very varied weather with conditions feeling more like November not August/ September. However in-between the colder weather we have had some nice sunny spells which has kept the club nice and busy. This week the newsletter is all about one thing… The Club Championships.
Club Championships are Here!
It has been a long summer that has lead to one weekend and it is finally here! This Saturday and Sunday is the Club Championships.
Yestreday (Thursday) we conducted the eagerly awaited tee time draw. Please click here to see what time you will be teeing off.
In preparation for this week everyone at the club has been extremely busy. Some very heavy rain has now subsided and the greenkeepers have promised quick true greens, tough pin positions but an overall fair test of golf.
As normal we have given our predictions..
Check them out by clicking on the image.
Some of the most important stats when it comes to golf is your scrambling. Tom and I (Dave) have been working on our 20 yard scrambles. Ideal if you have missed the green short, had to play a recovery shot or misjudged your yardage.
When your next on the short game area make half a circle, pick a spot 20 yards away and take 10 balls and aim to get as many in the 2 yard area as possible. Hitting it to area would give you an excellent chance of getting up and down.
Practice hard and work on your percentages getting 6/ 7 out of ten in the area would result in a massive improvement in your course management.
Sometimes it's not about aiming at the hole but playing for percentages!
Check out our video by clicking here to see how it's done.
Maintenance Work
The greenkeeping team have the annual maintenance work scheduled in for the week commencing September 21st. Please be aware nine holes will be closed each day that week whilst the work takes place.
Mixed Am/Am Results
A big thank you to everyone that contested and supported our Mixed Am/Am. The weather in the morning was horrific but the greenkeepers cleared the course and everyone enjoyed their game and the course. Some great golf was played from a mix of members from golf courses around the West Midlands.
Results were as follows:
1st - Gary Thompson, Sheree Thompson, Yen Phew, Jason Hy - 86 points
2nd - Bob Stafford, Shirley Higgins, Colin Whitehouse, Sue Whitehouse - 83 points
3rd - Neil Brydon, June Brydon, Ian Pringle, Heather Pringle - 80 points
Men's Double Roll Up Results
With just one week to go until the Club Championships the members of Cleobury were out in force to find some form leading into the championships.
Over the two days some fantastic golf was played with Rich Smith narrowly missing out on prizes with 39 points. Glen Tramaseur found form on the Sunday to shoot 39 points and snatch third place with a fine back nine around Deer Park.
Andy Young who is playing some of the best golf of his life continued his rich vein of form with 21 points on the back nine to also finish with 39 points. This sent him into second place on his own. The weekend however belonged Luke Brittain who shot an incredible 42 points to see his handicap cut to 17.
Luke added 'I was playing with my Dad, Graham and he had 22 points front nine and was ahead of me, however I made birdie and he made no return early in the back nine and momentum swung my way'.
With this kind of form Luke heads into the club championships strong favourite for the nett prize.
Final Standings
1st - Luke Brittain - 42 points
2nd - Andy Young - 39 points (CB)
3rd - Tram - 39 points (CB)
