Hello once again from the one and only CMGC! What a week it has been with some great golfing weather to play in and some even better golf on TV to watch. CMGC has held its own with the very best this week with glowing comparisons against some of the best courses in the West Midlands.
The greens are currently cut at 3.5mm everyday at 7am, they are verti cut (to remove seed heads) once a week and are rolled to get them extra quick at least once a week. All of the CMGC staff have been out playing this week and we all agree it is looking great! Pictured here is the third of Badgers.
The Open Championship
So who listened to my 101-1 tip for The Open? With Zach Johnson winning I would have won you some serious money! A big thanks to everyone for supporting our sweep and our money back specials on trolleys, bags and clothing.
Zach Johnson won a thrilling Open Championship handing victory to Paul Jones in our Open Sweep. A birdie on the 72nd hole followed by birdies on the 1st and 2nd playoff holes gave him some breathing space with a bogey par finish to clinch his second Major after his victory in the Masters back in 2007.
Paul takes home some fantastic prizes from FootJoy, along with Dave Walker (Marc Leishman) John Westley (Louis Oosthuizen) and Martin Bower (Jordan Spieth). Prizes can be collected from the golf centre.
Big Well Done To James
James Pain recently graduated from Manchester University as a Master of Chemistry after four years of study well done to James. We all wish him good luck in his first job working for Alpha~ESS an energy storage company based near Shanghai in China.
Pros' Day 2015
The first ever Pros' Day was held at CMGC on Saturday 18th July 2015. This competition was devised by the golf centre staff as a thank you to all the members for their continued and outstanding support. Titleist and Oldfields Cider sponsored the event with FREE drinks and golf balls included in the competition entry.
The Texas AM format was very friendly with it being a full handicap event, some fantastic scores were posted including 101 from Ashley and Adam Cook, Lewis Hodges and Matt Fairman. Fresh after his win last week John Haywood guided his team to 103 points which would have easily won on any other day.
However a fantastic all round team performance was posted by Ross Moorecroft, Steve Scrace, Dave Siddons and Dan Giles. Together they shot 108 points to see them romp home. Professional Sam Pain had this to say "I was starting each group off today and could see the team were confident, they have a great mix on handicaps with Dave and Steve very dangerous off their handicaps. It is great to see Dan playing in competitions straight away after joining the club and Ross is always consistent off his handicap. It was a great all round team performance".
A big thank you to everyone for playing and supporting the event, we will certainly make it into an annual event. Thanks once again to Titleist and Oldfields for their support. We hope many of you have been converted to Titleist balls and Oldfields Cider!

Ladies Club Championship
Wednesday 15th July saw the Ladies Club Championship. Although this was also St Swithin's Day the weather was kind to us, even more surprising after the rain on Monday & Tuesday. The sunshine and light winds meant that the course had dried out well.
16 ladies entered the 27 hole competition, enjoying the opportunity to play all 3 loops in the same competition, although by the end there were some tired legs and one or two tired swings.
The winner of the Gross Championship was Rosaleen Harrop with a fantastic gross score of 131., Julie Currie came second with 144 . The Nett prize was won by Lynne Pinner with a Nett score of 121, Julie was in second place again, this time on count back.
Mawley Milk Cup
With the golf season now well underway another trophy was up for grabs. This time it was the Pain's Mawley Milk Cup. Both Alex Barnes and James Martyn Smith shot a nett 69 which was enough to finish third and second.
The day however belonged to last years winner and defending champion Ross Moorecroft who shot a very impressive nett 66 to keep the trophy for another year.
Ross had this to say "I hit the ball really well yesterday in the Pro's Day Competition so felt a bit better about my game. I putted really well and made some crucial up and downs at the right time".
1st - Ross Moorecroft - nett 66
2nd - James Martyn Smith - nett 69
3rd - Alex Barnes - nett 69
