Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club Director of Golf
|Greetings from Cleobury Golf|
|Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club - Director of Golf|
Hello once again from CMGC!
It is a very special day…. We celebrate our birthday and now enter our 23rd year of operation. A massive thank you to everyone member, visitor and friend of the club it making is so successful. The course has changed a lot judging by the photos but I am pretty sure Graham is a vampire, he has not aged one bit!
This weeks newsletter has some great stories particularly involving the staff that you see here. It is great to see them getting the support of everyone associated with the club.
Emily Price competes for GB & Ireland
A big well done to Cleobury's Emily Price who played in the Vagliano trophy last week. The Continent of Europe won the Junior Vagliano Trophy for third time in a row at Malone Golf Club, Belfast today but Great Britain and Ireland can derive some comfort from the fact that they scored their highest points total since the contest began. Click here to check out the video here which features Emily.
Amy to take on the PGA
After shooting 37 points in the Ladies Stableford on Captains Weekend winning the comp and getting her handicap cut to 5. Amy is now able to apply to do the PGA Foundation Degree which is a 3 year course but will allow her to become a fully fledged PGA Professional at the end of it. This degree means she will be based at CMGC while learning the trade at the same time, the degree involves theory and practise and is assessed by assignments and examinations with a 1 week residential at the Belfry once a year.
Amy had this to say "It's great to finally get my handicap cut and be able to apply for my PGA course. I've been playing some great golf and it's starting to show with my recent scores. The PGA course starts in October and I can't wait to get started. Also a big thank you has to go to all the Pain Family for their help and support over the last months and helping me reach where I want to be. Hopefully soon I will be giving lessons and doing what I've always wanted to do!"
Maya Apprentice of the Year
A huge Well Done needs to go to Maya for firstly being nominated for Level 2 Apprentice of the Year within all of Telford College Level 2 students but also completing her apprenticeship with flying colours.
Her apprenticeship was focused on Hospitality and Catering which looked at preparing food, front of house, cooking and training other members of staff etc.
Maya was put forward for Apprentice of the Year at Telford College by Elaine (her tutor) who spoke with both Kathie and Graham and they agreed to put her forward without her knowledge, Kathie produced a personal profile of Maya which was sent to judges and was chosen!
Maya had this to say of being chosen, help from the club and her long term plans: "I feel honoured to have won Apprentice of the Year at Telford College, it's given be a massive boost of confidence in what I'm doing and its motivated me to carry on and gain more qualifications at the club. The club have been great in supporting me especially Kathie who has been my mentor, she has been amazing, she constantly motivated me to do well making sure I did my assignments of time and I definitely wouldn't have done as well without Kathie and George's help. The next step is the Awards Evening at Telford college on the 9th July where all prize winners are celebrated and I will receive my award. My long term plans are to possibly move on to a Level 3 Business and Admin apprenticeship for 2 years."
Pictured above is Maya left, Graham centre and Amy right.
Graham the proprietor of CMGC had this to say. "The whole of CMGC is delighted and proud of Maya's achievements so far and we wish her all the best in the nationals. We have always been committed to staff development and training and Maya joins a long line of graduates from Cleobury. We will continue to support Maya for the next stage in her career and offer the same to Amy when she takes on her PGA course".
If you see Amy or Maya this week feel free to congratulate them it is great to see Cleobury residents reaching their potential at CMGC.
Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation Golf Day
As many of you may already know Our Captain Jon and his wife Angela have a foundation called the Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation that holds a charity golf day here at CMGC each year in aid of Cancer Research UK, Macmillan as well as a number of other UK cancer charities.
This year the Golf Day is being held on Friday 10th July with tee times still available.
The entry fee is £35 per person which includes Tea or Coffee and a bacon roll, 18 holes of golf and a Buffet after as well as some amazing prizes up for grabs.
Jon and Ange do an amazing job each year and the golf day is continuously growing which is shown by the amount of money they raise each year. Last year they raised a staggering £7000 and cheques were presented to Cancer Research UK and Macmillan. It would be great if they received as much support as possible from the members and any visitors that would be interested in entering a team, the more support the more money raised for some amazing charities.
Entry forms can be in found in the shop, around the clubhouse or of Ange and Jon personally.
The Charity day is fast approaching so get the entry forms in ASAP and don't miss out on playing in a great day for great causes!

Anniversary Scramble Results
It was party time at Cleobury Mortimer golf club as the club celebrated its 23rd year of operation. The club opened on July 1st 1993 and to celebrate this the club hosted its Anniversary Texas Scramble. The members got right behind the club in its celebrations with a bumper field taking part. The conditions were almost perfect with little wind, bright sunshine and this brought the best out in the players with some great golf on show.
Neil Brydon, Paul Liggins, Glen Tramaseur and Jez Duffield shot a very impressive 56.6 which on any other day would of won the competition, however they were pushed into second place on count back by just one shot around Deer Park. Josh Rowbotham, Charlie Edwards, Louie Edwards and Harry King also recorded the same score but a barrage of birdies on the back nine sealed them victory.
Josh had this to say on his team's win "We are all good friends and play together regularly which helped us massively as we know each other distances and could help on club selection. The course was in great condition and we took advantage of this by either running the ball in or attacking the greens. It was great to take part in one of the biggest Texas Scramble events of the year celebrating the clubs 23rd Anniversary and with some great weather it was a thoroughly enjoyable round". Pictured below is captain Josh after the win was confirmed.

Golf Centre Specials
Our first batch of Superstroke grips sold out with 2 weeks so more have arrived. The most popular sizes have been the midslim 3.0 and the slim 2.0. If you are unsure which grip would be suitable for you check out this online test here
We can fit single grips on the spot for just £25. Superstroke parallel technology allows for even pressure in both hands, eliminating added tension in the wrist and forearms. This helps the arms to swing free, further enhancing a pendulum putting stroke.
The FootJoy Shirt amnesty is still going great with many of you picking up a bargain. These logo shirts pictured are just £25 in the promotion when you bring in an old shirt. These have proved the most popular with only a few left!
