Hello from one and only Cleobury!
Hope you have all enjoyed the long bank holiday weekend and managed to get some golf in. The great feedback has continued to roll in, if you are on Facebook and have a spare 5 minutes it would be great if you could write something nice about us. Please click here to do so.
The greenkeepers have continued to work their magic on the course, the irrigation system is now running from 8pm until 6am on all the greens and tees. You may of seen Dave, Sam and Rob out on the course Sunday and Monday. We were lucky enough to have Matt Jones playing CMGC, he loved the course and the whole set up we have at CMGC. Deer Park and Foxes Run were in excellent condition.
Sam and Matt take the spoils
Sam and Matt beat me (Dave) and Rob 1 up, a nice 3 under par from Matt on Foxes sealed the deal and the £5 win for them.
Saturday 6th June we will host a Pairs Betterball Open. This competition is open to everyone and with all money going straight into the prize pot it promises to be a great event. The tee sheet is available in the golf centre or if you contact us here we can book you in.
Captains weekend also kicks off in June with all competition sheets for the seniors, juniors, ladies, men's and mixed competitions available on site at CMGC. Don't forget the knockouts deadline is this weekend and this weekend's competition has a trophy up for grabs.
Night Golf Friday 19th June
The evening will commence at 9:45pm. We will be playing 9 holes on badgers sett (all par 3's). Tickets are just £15 and it will run from a shot gun start.
The tournament is run by members Dave Harrison, Ian Orme and Harvey Dodd (pictured) with all proceeds from the night going to charity.
All of the staff here at CMGC will be playing in it, if you would like to join the fun, tickets can be purchased from CMGC.
Bank Holiday Weekend Medal
For some you could say it was a medal to forget, with a few 9's, 10's and 11's appearing on some peoples cards this weekend. God knows what the word medal does to some people, but for a few this weekend consistency was the key for victory.
With some rain early in the morning, the skies stayed clear for a dry weekend medal in the end, with the course looking in spectacular condition. With the scores rolling in, and cards being handed over with disappointed faces from their owners it wasn't a good day for some and definitely not a good way to spend a bank holiday.
After struggling with his golf the last few weeks, Gary Mann was the first to shoot under par with a nett 70, with a couple of tweaks, he seemed to be back on form and striking the ball great which showed in his score. John Brazier also remained steady as always and, followed suit and recorded another nett 70. Our Player of the Month, Mark Southall continued his good form and thanked his consistency to shoot the clubhouse lead however the day belonged to our Junior Captain Josh Rowbotham who recorded a great 66 nett.
Josh had this to say "I was really consistent of the tee and didn't miss a fairway, which helped me also hit greens in regulation. I managed to make a few birdies but I mostly made pars which helped me stay steady. I hope I can stay this consistent and get my handicap down this summer."
Ladies PING Medal
On Wednesday 13th May, the ladies section hosted their Monthly Medal, but it was one to win with 3 PING prizes up for grabs. The Prizes were kindly donated by Rob Grier, PGA Professional here at CMGC. 3rd prize was a PING Rhapsody towel, 2nd a PING Rhapsody Umbrella and 1st a PING Rhapsody Trolley bag.
With the course playing hard in difficult conditions and the course still set up for the Pro-Am, it was going to be tough for the ladies. It was fair to say all struggled with the conditions of the course, but none could complain about how good the course was. The prizes were won by Annette Juckes in 3rd just missing out on count back to Sara Pain in 2nd and top spot going to Amy Millward!
Amy had this to say: "The course played tough, with some hard pin positions, but I managed to play some steady golf which I was pleased with. Big thanks to Rob for putting some great prizes up and well done to Sara and Annette too!"
The New food menu has gone down a storm, George and the team have now updated the Panini range. Although my waist line does not need these at the moment I could not resist being the tester!
Pictured here is the chicken, cheese and piri piri sauce panini and the other is a bacon, brie and cranberry.
I highly recommend these, but drop the salad garnish and upgrade to fries!
