Hello from the one and only CMGC!
A big warm welcome to James, Amanda, Mike and John who have joined the club this week. This is the 2nd day of a 7 day week for me in which I will be working for 12 hours! That can only mean one thing…. The busiest week of the year is here! On Friday we host the Adam Millichip Foundation Golf Day. This charity day is run by members and friends of the club with over 200 people playing. The foundation raises money to help disabled people get into sport. A really worthwhile charity day that we are privileged to be a part of.
After some heavy rain in the early part of the week the greenkeepers have been flat out preparing the course for the weekend ahead. The combination of rain and warming temperatures has caused the grass to grow like mad. The course is looking very green with all areas performing superbly well.
Pro Am Grows
The Worcestershire Open Pro-Am that takes place on Monday 11th May here at Cleobury Mortimer now has 28 teams entered! This event has so far past all expectations with the original goal of 20. It is set to be the showcase event in the Worcestershire calendar with some brilliant prizes for amateurs up for grabs and of course a large professional's pot with the sponsorship of Kidderminster Self Storage.
Adam Whiting professional at Ravensmeadow Golf Club has actually contacted me as he is a player short. If any Cleobury players would like to join his team, please contact me here. Best of luck to Sam who is flying the flag for Cleobury. Any members are welcome to attend the event and watch the best in Worcestershire take on the mighty CMGC!

Shot of the Week
Once again some great shots have been hit at CMGC over the last week.
The shot of the week is tied this week though. Gloria Bullock playing in a ladies match at Upper Sapey hit a hole in one. However Gordon Moraity playing in the Wednesday night roll up and had a 2…. On the 6th of Deer Park. Playing his second shot blind with the green not in sight he hit a nice crisp iron. When he got to the green they thought it was over the back but there it was in the hole. With that being the only 2 in the roll up Gordon also took the money!
Hendry 3 Club
The first trophy competition of the year was contested at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club on Saturday with the members playing for the Hendry 3 club. This fun competition which is played over 18 holes with competitors using three clubs one of which must be a putter. Surprisingly there were some very good scores posted. Martin Bower shot a fine 33 points to take the trophy on count back from Dean Rogers.
Club professional Sam Pain had this to say on the winner "the good thing about competitions like this is that there is no choice or indecision, I have coached Martin recently and he strikes the ball great with a full set he could be set for a great season".
Midland Schools Championships
This week we received some really exciting news. CMGC has been chosen to host the Midlands Schools Championships Final. Six counties play in this and each year a home course is chosen meaning at best you would only get picked every six years! Thankfully after putting our proposal forward in 2014 we were selected for this prestigious event on Friday 29th May 2015. The best young schools talent within the Midlands will be at CMGC on that day vying for a place in the nationals. Any youngster having aspirations to play for England will be playing in the event with talent scouts keeping a close eye on results.
The clubs reputation must be flying at the moment. We have been asked to host a number of County and Midland events. With that in mind the Friday 29th May will be very busy, if you are looking to play please book a tee time. Alternatively if you would like to volunteer and help with tee starting and other activities please speak to Dave in the golf centre.
Members on Tour
Great to see more CMGC members on tour, this week Chris Whitehead, Peter Holyoake and Roy Clifford went over to Ireland to visit former CMGC member Vince Darby who now lives over there. As the pictures show the lads had some great weather and played some stunning courses. I highly recommend this destination.
Player of the Month
The player of the month award has once again been picked at this week's committee meeting. The winner is…… Mark Southall for his brilliant display in the alliance at Bridgnorth Golf Club netting a hole in one.
Club captain Jon Gaskell had this to say "We chose Mark because of the stunning shot he played at Bridgnorth. It was one of those shots he may never replicate in such a big event".
Pictured here is last month's winner Deborah with the trophy.
The world famous Craig Milverton is coming to CMGC!
Tickets available from the bar from Friday! Just £5 to see this man is an absolute bargain!

A good average weekly turnout of over 40 players has enabled a variety of competitions to take place. These competitions have included: a Scramble, Greensomes, Stableford, the Captains Classic and a trios competition.
The Texas scramble was won by Graham Butcher, Dave Jinks, Dave Hadley and Chris Whitehead with 56.5 points. In the Greensomes Bob Lucas and Dave Hadley won with 35 points. Alan Hall and John Haywood won the two divisions in the stableford with 39 and 42 points respectively. The trios on March 31st was won by Mike Foord, John Haywood and Alan Grainger with 74 points. The Captains Classic, where teams of two try to better the Captain/Pro team, put a big dent in Colin Onions wine cellar as he let 9 teams beat their score, The good point is that it raised £80 towards his chosen charity - Acorns Hospice.
On the friendlies match front, the Seniors have played 3 games to date against Penn(A), Kington (H), and The Shropshire (A). Unfortunately the team is yet to score a win having lost all three matches. We are looking for our fortunes to turn in the forthcoming matches against Churchill & Blake Down, Bewdley Pines, Ludlow and Bridgnorth.
