Greetings from Cleobury Golf
Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club - Director of Golf

Hello once again from the mighty CMGC!

Another week passes us by and we are well and truly into the golfing season. Coaches Rob and Sam have busy diaries and are helping many golfers improve their games. If you would like to book a lesson or require more information on Rob and Sam please get in touch by clicking here.

Drum roll please…… Meet the newest member of the CMGC staff…. Mac! Mac has joined CMGC from the Knighton area. He is very friendly and super cute, feel free to come and see him next time your at CMGC.

The first trophy competition of the season will take place this Saturday, The Hendry 3 Club. This is a full handicap, individual Stableford (non-qualifier) with just three clubs. One of which must be a putter. Plenty of tee times available please contact us here to book in.

The club is thriving at the moment with the course looking better than ever for this time of year. The kind messages from golfers about the course have been passed on to the green keeping team who this week have fired up the irrigation system which has been watering all the greens and tees.

The flag of St George is flying high and proud for St Georges Day last week, the course condition is first class.

Beer Festival

The 2015 Beer festival was once again a huge success for the club, with over 2000 pints ordered we were in affect drunk dry! Starting on the Friday and running late in the Saturday night golfers and the Cleobury community were all loving the music, beer and food.

The local press were also kind enough to support the event taking pictures and showcasing it in the papers.

It takes a lot of effort and hard work to make these kind of events successful and I thank everyone who was at CMGC on the day.

Plans are already in place for the 2016 festival, which as always promises to be a great event. A few short sharp videos from the event can be seen here:

Hole In One Alert!

Team CMGC were once again out in force in the latest round of the Shropshire and Herefordshire Alliances. Fielding three teams at Bridgnorth Golf Club glorious sunshine was on show for all. Cleobury just missed out on the prizes but Mark Southall stole the day.

On the tough par 3 third hole Mark hit a glorious shot that pitched on the front of the green and rolled straight in for a hole in one! Well done Mark!

CMGC On Tour

Founder member Jez Duffield was lucky enough to get tickets to The Masters in the online ballot. Jez pictured here with is wife is representing CMGC in his club crested shirt.

Jez said it was the trip of a life time and well worth doing if you ever get the chance! Should we considering running a golf trip there next year?

Remember if you're on tour anywhere send the picture over!

Emily Price Continues Her Impressive Start To The Season

Cleobury Mortimer Golf club's Emily Price has had another week on the podium. Lacon Childe pupil Emily on Friday 17th April won the U18's Shropshire Schools County Championship for the 3rd consecutive year. She scored 73 on the par 71 course.

The weather was sunny but had a testing wind which made Arscott Golf Club play tough. Emily had an unusual front nine score of 5 over par, but rallied on the back nine with 4 birdies to post a winning score 7 shots ahead of her nearest competitor. Emily has now qualified for the English Schools u16s final in Leicestershire and u18s Regional Championship later this year at her home club.

Shot of The Week

A special mention to Steve Scrace who was playing his third shot into the 9 of badgers sett from the back of the 1st medal tee! Not quite sure how he go there, but it must have been a bit of a miss yardage!

No up and down was made, but he did walk away with a five!

Handicap Team

What a weekend, first match of the season for the Handicap Team and an awesome Victory

As well as being Beer Festival weekend, the Handicap Team took on Bewdley Pines in their first match of the season, with some good weather helping conditions; Captain Guy Taylor rounded up his team and sent out some very strong pairings.

Leading the way (as a captain should) Guy and his partner Gordon Moraity put the first point on the board as they cruised to a 7&6 victory.

The good news was followed up by the next 4 matches winning and putting Cleobury 5-0 up with just one game to go. With a clean sweep possible for the first time in a few years. The last match was played by Dave Smith and Bryan Colley, making their debuts. They secured a half even after Dave had a 5 putt on the 8th on Badgers which he took well after some light hearted banter in the clubhouse.

Well done to the Lads, it was a great result and looks like a promising season for the Handicap squad! All the best for the rest of your matches and I must add you all look nice and dapper in your Team Shirts!

Ladies Medal

This Wednesday was the ladies first Medal of the year and saw 20+ ladies supporting the section and the competition. The winner of the April Medal was Sue Griffiths! Well done Sue, Keep up the good golf!

Srixon balls

What ball will suit me?

Last week we reminded you how important it is to play with the right ball because we all have different swing speeds. On top of this our own budgets vary and it can be difficult to know if you’re getting the best out of your ball. Ask us about Srixon’s range which covers golfers of all abilities and watch this video to find out more.
