Hello from the one and only CMGC,
Masters fever has well and truly hit us, with the course nice and busy and membership sales continuing to soar!
Jordan Spieth certainly did the business in the Masters. I hope you all followed Sam's predictions last week who tipped him to win and Paul Casey who was placed!
It is great to see the Hobsons Wednesday night 9 holes back up and running again. This allows members to enjoy 9 holes and a few beers in the bar after. For anyone wishing to join, this takes place every Wednesday from 4pm.
Masters Sweep Winners!
1st Jordan Spieth - Gary Mann wins the Stuburt summer tour players package.
2nd - Phil Mickelson - Martin Bower - Sport lite 3.5 golf shoes in black
3rd - Justin Rose - Alex Barnes - FootJoy polo
4th - Rory Mcilroy - Steve Lau - Stuburt jumper & glove
Sadly Adam Scott did not win The Masters, so everyone that brought a S1 trolley will not get their money back. It was still a great promotion and thank you to everyone for supporting it.
Feedback
It is always nice to get feedback from members and visitors and we were lucky enough to get these lovely messages over the weekend. The course in particular has got some great reviews recently with the greens in such good condition. I reached out to course superintendent Rob for more information on why the course is so good compared to many places. He had this to say:
'We really study the climatic conditions rain fall, temperatures etc. We got our spring work done two weeks early compared to many places. This is why the greens are rolling so well and true. The top dressing promotes a smoother surface and a bit of grass growth and the compaction relief allows the greens to be at their very best. I have a great professional team at Cleobury, it is no fluke the course performs well we all work hard at it'.

Titleist Fitting Day
Our first fitting day of the season has been confirmed and it is fast approaching. Team Titleist will be hitting CMGC on Wednesday 29th April from 4-8pm. This is the perfect date as it is of course roll up night.
Slots are by appointment only.
It is Will Harvey who is hosting the day (he looked after Dave and Tom at Stone). Rob Grier will also be on hand.
Titleist will be bringing EVERYTHING irons, wedges, woods, hybrids and of course the 915 driver.
We cannot recommend this day enough. Dave's recent fitting has found him 30 yards more of the tee and the wedge fitting has helped him around the greens massively.
Please contact us here to book a slot - strictly first come first served.
Beer Festival Fast Approaching!
For the sixth year in a row the Cleobury Beer Festival is back to kick off the season. Last year saw record crowds attend Cleobury Mortimer and organisers are hoping for the same again.
2015 will see a record number of ales and ciders on show sourced from a 25 mile radius. Once again the festival is a celebration of St Georges Day.
As well as a fine selection of drinks on show, there will of course be the very much-anticipated Open Mic Entertainment. This again will be headed by Cleobury resident Aaron Booton. Aaron will performing a mixture of current chart hits as well as some old classics, 2014 saw 12 hours of constant entertainment from Aaron and other talent local musicians.
Although a Beer Festival the festival very much has a family feel to it with plenty of soft drinks available for under 18's and the music is something the whole family can enjoy.
Local food including Burgers and Hot Dogs will also be available throughout the day.
Tickets are £5 in advance, which includes a pint glass and a pint (FREE admission for under 18's).
Tickets are available from the golf club or from www.cleoburybeerfestival.bigcartel.com
Hosted at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club on Friday and Saturday 24th and 25th of April.
Festival organiser Dave Pain added:
'This project was started by three local lads who wanted to celebrate St Georges day and showcase just how fantastic our local area is. Now into its 6th year it has stood the test of time and has continued to grow. Rest assured we have plenty of surprises up our sleeves to once again make it the best one yet'.
Easter Open
2015 Easter Open was once again a huge success with 34 teams (136 people) contending the bumper field in glorious sunshine. With tee times from 9:00am - 1:45pm, CMGC was kicking of the season in fine style, with a buzzing atmosphere, great weather and most importantly happy golfers.
The open could have been anyone's this year with some great teams down on paper, and no one could complain about the weather, with the sun beating down on us, sun cream was definitely needed! Unfortunately for some; pale skin and ginger hair isn't a great combination and Amy and Matt Juliard unfortunately learnt that!
Some great scores kept coming in all day with a significant amount under 60. The Pro Shop's own Amy Millward secured a good score of 58.6 nett with her team of John Westley, Glen Tramaseur and Tony Willetts, which secured them 3rd place. Last year's Winning team which consisted of Gary Mann, Martin Bower, Aaron Booton and Nigel Williams continued their good form as a team and secured 2nd place with 58.3 nett.
However it was the first team out at 9am that would hold the lead all day and take victory in this year's Easter Open. The Team consisted of Graham Butcher, Dave "wild thing" Gordon, Eduardo Nascimento and Grant Carbines with an impressive score of 56.8 nett. When asked what helped them to victory they answered 'we started steady round Deer Park, however we started the back nine in style taking 5 consecutive birdies and lipping out for 6 in a row on the 6th badgers. It is a brilliant day and we are delighted with the victory'.
With many more opens to come at CMGC we wish everyone the Best of Luck and hope to see the same bumper field throughout the year.
Final Standings

Men's Stableford Results
The first competition with just normal winter rules certainly took the members of Cleobury by surprise with just one player shooting under their handicap.
Conditions on the day were very tough however Roy Clifford in the first group out shot 33 points which was enough to finish in third place.
Adam Winnall who has had a quiet season by his standards shot 34 points to finish second.
The day however belonged to Karl Tyers. Karl has been working very hard on his game over the winter after joining CMGC from Stourbridge back in May 2014.
Karl shot a fantastic 38 points to take first place and had this to say:
'My aim was to shoot a good round I struck the ball well in the wind and holed some vital putts'
Some really interesting stats from the competition yesterday. The 135 yard par 3 8th of Foxes Run was the 5th hardest hole on the course. With an average score of 4.56. Just goes to show how quick that green is and it's all about the tee shot, stay short of the hole and take par!

Emily Price Once Again Doing Her Bit For England!
Emily on 9th-10th of April competed for England at the Scottish Girls Open Championships. This is an individual and team event. She played extremely well. The course was in great condition, with sunny weather both days, but strong winds during the last round. Emily scored 1 under par both days on the par 72 course to finally finish 2under par. This along with Holly Muse's 9 under par secured the win for the England Team over Wales and Scotland.
In the individual event there was 120+ girls from all the best players in Europe. Only 4 girls finished under par, and Emily's score secured herself a solid 3rd place behind England's Holy Muse and Scotland's Shannon McWilliams. This is a great start to a busy season that lies ahead for Emily.
