Greetings from Cleobury Golf
Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club - Director of Golf

Greetings golfers,

We are another week closer to the start of the golfing season with our last winter competition of the year taking place this weekend. I can feel the anticipation amongst the golfers at CMGC. We have had a very busy week at the club. Many people have taken advatange of  the taster membership, with 18 individuals signing up.

A big welcome to the club: Sally, Kit, Richard, Ryan, Adrian, Mark, Sean, Charles, Gary, James, Roy, George, Mark L, Mick, Chris, David, Steve and Roger.

I know I keep mentioning it but there is such a great buzz and atmosphere around the club at the moment. I firmly believe 2015 is going to be a great season.

Please keep spreading the word about the membership offer.

It is the last weekend of our winter pricing, so make the most of it as from Monday we will be operating our summer pricing structure. Call 01299 271 112 to book the legendary CMGC breakfast and 18 holes for £30.

The greenkeepers finished off top dressing the greens last week. This is essential spring maintenance work which will ensure the greens are top notch. After the sun and rain of this week they are already back to normal and putting smoother than ever before. The greenkeepers did however find this on the 9th hole of Foxes Run course.

We do not accept this kind of behaviour and I would ask any members or visitors to be vigilant and if you see anything like this please report it to a staff member.

Kington Alliance- Friday 20th March

The latest round of the PGA alliance saw three teams from Cleobury head on over to Kington Golf Club on what was a calm and sunny day. Teeing off at 10.30am well after the excitement of the eclipse Sam Pain and his team of Paul Jones, Andy Thomas and Roger Evans rallied on the back 9 to shoot 84 points and claim 4th spot in the team event. Sam's level par score of 36 points, including a 3 under par back 9 saw him take 4th spot and finish two off the lead from Shrewsbury's Simon Jones

Cleobury B
managed to register their first order of merit points of the season, Dave Balmer and Guy Taylor were making birdies and nett birdies for fun on the front 9 and the experienced Ian Dorrell produced a one under par back 9 to propel the team in to second place on 85 points. In the amateur event Amy Millward continues to be one to watch, high on confidence after a productive and successful winter on the golf course Amy made 6 birdies on her way to 39 points (off ¾ handicap) and take second spot. Amy's team consisting of Alan Hall, Bob Barlow and Keith Gardner finished just short in the team event.

Hawkstone Park - Wednesday 1st April

We now move on to Hawkstone Park on Wednesday 1st April where Cleobury will be fielding four teams! Once again thanks to everyone for supporting these events and we hope to keep seeing CMGC competing at the top of the leaderboard.

Texas Scramble

With the golf season fast approaching CMGC was absolutely buzzing on Saturday with 16 teams contesting the Texas Scramble. Many teams were making use of the clubhouse facilities to have some breakfast and talk tactics. With such a big field playing we all knew a great score was needed to win.

We also opened the competition to non members playing in member's teams and it was great to see an old face back at the club.

Tony Willets joined his best friend Bob Lucas on saturday with John Westley and Roy Dudley making up the alliance. They made a mockery of the tough winds to score 58.8. The winds were very tough with many commenting how tough the first of Foxes Run was playing.

With a score of 55 normally winning the Texas scrambles Lucas and Co surprisingly found themselves top of the pack with no one seemingly getting close, that was until one of the best golfers Cleobury has ever produced walked off the 18th green.

Jack Pringle who now lives in London joined his Dad Ian, Gary Hawes and Terry Webb in shooting a stunning 56.8 to clinch top spot.

Jack had this to say 'I always enjoy coming back to play Cleobury there is a great atmosphere that is very unique. It is great to get the win with my Dad, Gary and Terry. We all played some great shots in tough conditions'.

Hole In One

Big congratulations to Charlie Edwards who had a hole in one on the 5th of Deer Park last week.

It was a perfect hole in one with the ball pitching a foot past the hole and spinning back in.

Ladies Results

This week hosted the Ladies Stableford Waltz, which is a fun competition to get the ladies section together and play with different people. The format involves the same as the waltz dance, 1,2,3 1,2,3 where there is one score to count on the first, two on the second, three on the third, 1 on the fourth etc.

It was a good day weather wise with some good teams on paper, however the team that game out on top this week was Nina Foord, Juliet Dugdale and Heather Pringle scoring 62 points.

Nina had this to say on her team's win: "We all contributed well, with us all scoring Nett pars on the final hole with 3 scores to count! I played really well and am really pleased with where my game is heading thanks to Rob Grier who has been coaching me through the winter. The recent lesson I had with him this week helped me massively today."

Well played ladies! Keep it up.
