Hello from the one and only CMGC, we are into March now and with some warm temperatures predicted we can almost feel Spring! This week we managed to see the final proof of the new Stuburt brochure that was shot at CMGC. 50K copies are being produced and distributed worldwide to Europe, Asia and Down Under. It is great exposure for the club with some awesome pictures of the course inside.
If you have been practicing over the last couple of weeks on the short game area you may have noticed some work going on. More will be explained over the next few weeks but basically we are working hard at making it the best all weather short game area in the county!
In the golf centre we have all been very busy with club MOT's, I must thank everyone that has dropped their clubs in for the FREE checks. It is great to have the support on these kind of projects and we hope the extra service given highlights our professionalism. A special mention to Dean Rogers, Dean had not had his clubs re-gripped for 10 years but after Matt put some Lamkin crosslines on them (£6 each) he went on to shoot 40 points in the Saturday roll up and take top spot.
Remember we are running the Golf Pride special where you can get your seven iron re-gripped with the Golf Pride Tour Velvet FREE of charge (whilst stock lasts). Once you see and feel how good the grips are you will be wondering why you waited so long!
To book in please click here.
This weekend we have a betterball on but tee times are also available - £25 for 18 holes and a full English breakfast! The course is looking fantastic and with the high temperatures forecast its ideal for golf!
Fernley's Fitting = Fantastic
Another member who has seen improved performance from their game is Deborah Fernley after having custom fitted clubs at Stone Driving Range. Deborah can't speak highly enough of the experience she received at Stone Driving Range, She had this to say:
"The staff involved were fantastic and really helpful, they made the whole experience worthwhile and it was the best club fitting I have ever had."
Back in November 2014 Deborah visited Stone to get fitted for a full set of clubs, after sitting down with her and having a chat Rob and Sam explained what the fitting involved and the benefits she could gain in her game.
After trying a range of models Deborah found she had the best consistency with the Cobra bio cell irons and woods. These clubs have seen Deborah losing 4 shots in the mixed events going from 32 - 28, but Deborah is generally looking forward to the summer and getting her handicap as low as possible.
Deborah is another CMGC member in what is now a long list who has been to Stone and seeing fantastic results. Rob, Sam and the team offer first class service that will improve your game. Stone is only an hour from CMGC. If you are serious about improving your game in the 2015 season custom fitted clubs at Stone is the way forward!
In case you weren't already aware, this year's assault on the Worcestershire Handicap League is being spearheaded by Guy Taylor. Guy takes over from Andy Johnson who has done a sterling job over the last 2 years and came within one win of reaching the semi-finals last year.
Guy said, "When Andy sent the text to say he was stepping down, I thought why not give it a go?" For those of you who have never played, the league is made up of 13 teams divided into 2 divisions, who will play home and away. Each match consists of 6 pairs better ball, a low handicapper (5-12) and a high handicapper (13-24).
The draw took place at the AGM in December and drew Cleobury against Bewdley Pines, Little Lakes, Ombersley, Perdiswell Park and new comers Kidderminster. Guy will be ably assisted by his vice-Captain Gordon Moraity.
Guy went on to say, "Every time I play for my club I feel like it's an honour and if anyone knows me they will tell you that I hate losing and I hope I can bring this to the team. I'll be looking for players in form or strong pairings. The matches kick off at the end of April but come thick and fast May, June and July so I'm really looking for a pool of players I can draw from". Anyone interested in playing should look out for the sheets around the club in the next few weeks where you can register your interest and leave your contact details for Guy....... Good luck Guy.
Like the scratch team last year Guy is looking to get the team kitted out. CMGC is offering logo team player jumpers for £25 and white shirts for £20. The jumpers are already in stock but shirts require a £10 deposit with the remaining balance paid once they arrive. Please sign up in the golf centre for these items.
Rake Sponsorship
CMGC has a unique opportunity for any company looking for sponsorship ideas. 100 rakes like the one pictured are available for company sponsorship for just £450 + VAT (vinyl stickers NOT included). These will be placed in all the bunkers on the course, and if you're anything like me (Dave) it is fantastic exposure as people like me are ALWAYS in bunkers!
The idea is to have company information of your choice down the rake handle, the stickers will be ordered separately at the company's discretion. If this is something of interest please speak to Dave, Graham or Tom. Keep the bunkers in top notch condition and get your companies message out there all at the same time.
Men's Texas Am
Another week passes by as we get closer to the golf season and it was great to see so many members over the weekend enjoying their golf. Sunday saw the return of the popular Texas AM competition. This four ball team event is contested with the two best Stableford scores recorded on each hole.
Some great teams were down on paper but it was the experienced Bob Lucas who led his team to victory. Bob who has won many seniors competitions this year was the back bone of the team with some great golf played. His team mates of Jamie Fearnley, Paul Liggins and Glenn Tramaseur all played their part making use of their shots and scoring big points when needed. They finished on 94 points to win comfortably.
Club professional Sam Pain had this to say about the winning team "This was a very strong team on paper with a nice mix of handicaps from low to high. Looking at their scorecard some great golf was played in tough winter conditions. I hope they can keep this team together in the summer and keep winning".
