Good day from the one and only CMGC, after the snow last week we now find the course super dry and buggy's back on. Not sure how long this will continue for but the course is in great shape with the surrounds and other areas being cut. Rob and the team have also completed the deep aeration winter program. This relieves compaction and water that is in the root zone, the added aeration into the root zone promotes healthy growth and disease resistant greens to get them into perfect condition ready for the spring.
If you have played on other courses last summer with really spongy wet greens this means that they do not do enough aeration, which causes the water be retained giving a bobbly surface.
Please click on the two images below to view a video of the process taking place and how the greens are still rolling out perfectly.

PGA Dinner
As you all know I am making an effort of attending as many meetings and dinners as possible in 2015 on behalf of CMGC. Below is information on the PGA annual dinner and I am hoping to get a table from CMGC. Obviously there is a cost involved but it seems great value for money with the entertainment that you get. Most clubs within Worcestershire bring a table and I don't want CMGC to miss out as its a great time to network with other clubs etc.
The Worcestershire PGA Annual Dinner, 6th March 2015. 7pm for 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced at just £27.50 This evening is normally well attended by Professionals & Amateurs from across the county including members from all golf clubs..The evening will comprise of Welcome drinks on arrival in the foyer, followed by carneipes in the captain's lounge with Rob James, a close up Magician and Pick Pocket.
The evening will then continue in the Ball room with a 3 Course meal, followed by coffee and mints & more personal close up Magic at each table from Rob James. After dinner Rob will do a 15 minute show engaging the whole audience. The evening will then move on with the well known comedian and entertainer Mal Rich. If anyone would like to attend this with myself, Tom, Sam, Graham and Dave Moore please get in touch by clicking here.
Motocaddy Service Centre Update
Last Thursday we started the long journey to Stanstead 'the home of Motocaddy'. A four hour drive down with a Maccies breakfast fuelled us up for the long day ahead. We were shown around their fantastic set up before having a full eight hours with head technician Dave. We went through all the potential repairs we would face from gear boxes to switches. This was followed by a short test that we all passed with flying colours. CMGC is now officially a Motocaddy service and repair centre. We have a bit more to do with regards to the work area, but will be fully operational from Friday 20th February for both Motocaddy and the club repairs.
Men's Double Roll Up- 7th and 8th February
With heavy frost greeting the players on both days it was all about keeping the ball low and not firing at the pin holes. A tactical masterclass and some patience was needed to tame the golf course this weekend. With a bumper field of golfers wrapped up warm over the two days it was 'Mr Consistent' Rob Winnall who stormed to the top of the leaderboard early on with 37 points. Roger Evans continued his fine form with 38 points to lead almost all of Saturday. Andy Young was the only player to make a move on Sunday, he also shot 38 points and with a superior back count finished ahead of Evans.
The player of the weekend however was Bryan Colley. Bryan made a mockery of the very tough frozen conditions to shoot 41 points with the only blemish on his score coming on the 12th hole.
Club professional Sam Pain had this to say about Bryan,
'Bryan has shot a superb score out there today with the greens so firm. It is clear he has an eye for a ball from his successful cricket career. Bryan is one of those players who, if he wanted to, could easily be a single figure handicap golfer. He has massive potential for a big year at Cleobury'.
Final standings
1st - Bryan Colley - 41 points
2nd - Andy Young - 38 points
3rd - Roger Evans - 38 points
4th Rob Winnall - 37 points
Pictured is Bryan after his win.
Pringle Pops A Treble!
Heather Pringle must enjoy winter golf and harsh conditions as she's on a winning roll currently.
This week was the Ladies 6th Order of Merit and Heather took top spot for the third week in a row. 19 points on Foxes (her back nine) saw her sail to the top of the leaderboard.
Heather had to say "It was a lottery out there today; however I holed some good putts especially on the back nine which keep my score going."
Stuburt Winter Professional
Ian Dennis won our complete Stuburt players package and is now head to toe in the latest winter gear. Our popular sweeps will start again with the masters.
This week we welcome the CMGC Ladies Captain Julie Currie.
It was still lovely to see so many ladies making an effort to turn up and meet socially despite poor driving conditions. With the weather having such an impact on play this time of year we will continue to review and change fixtures accordingly.
As usual our Ladies AmAm is being held on the first Wednesday in September and our Ladies 3 Ball Alliance is on 5th August these are both open competitions being played with CMGC members or members of others clubs. Encourage your friends to come and join in with what is always a thoroughly enjoyable day. Application forms will be available online or from the Club.
Our first Ladies social evening of the year is on Wednesday 25th March, a notice providing fuller details will be distributed to all nearer the time. Looking to February, Cleobury Ladies play in their first round draw away at Sapey Golf Club in the Mail on Sunday Classic. This is a national tournament with Initial rounds being played against local clubs. The format is five singles matches with the final pairing to play to sudden death if necessary to achieve a result. Wishing all selected to play the best of luck. Finally wishing you all an enjoyable golfing year ahead and keeping fingers crossed for favourable weather conditions throughout.
Best regards,
Julie Currie
Ladies Captain
