Good day members and friends of CMGC.
It has been another great week of golf here at Cleobury with the sun shining and the course nice and busy. After last weeks green keeping education with the fertilizing mix, this week the lads were busy verti draining and top dressing the greens. The verti draining lets air into the root zone for healthy growth and to relieve compaction and aid drainage. The top dressing then fills the holes to level and smooth the surface for a good roll when putting.
80 tons of top dressing went on the greens at a cost of £45 per ton. The mixture of top dressing is produced by Banks Amenity and really puts into context the price of what it takes to get the course great.
The greens are then rolled to make them as smooth as possible. We believe by planning ahead and getting the top dressing and fertilizing done now we will be miles ahead of anywhere else.

Phil signs on the dotted line
Last week we introduced our new head coach Phil Moore, on Friday he was at CMGC to sign his contract and meet some of the members. As promised here is a little more information on Phil, his experience and skills set.
We are delighted to have Phil on board here and see it as a massive coup for the club attracting someone of Phil's calibre. Phil has learnt from the best gaining first hand experience from Ian Boardley (UOB Lecturer in Psychology), Matt Bridge and Ben Langdown (UOB Lecturers in Sports Science), Alistair Davies (UOB Lecturer in Analysis of Swing Theory and Senior PGA Professional at the Belfry) and the late Ramsay McMaster (Golf Physiotherapist and Golf Specific Trainer).
At the tender age of just 23 Phil already has a vastly impressive CV having worked at the Darren Clarke Golf School in Northern Ireland, Murcar Links in Scotland and The V Club Golf Resort in Lithuania and most recently the Jonny Foster Golf Academy. This experience of diverse golfing environments sets Phil up to really make a name for himself at Cleobury. Phil's main responsibilities will be membership growth and developing the Cleobury golf academy from beginners to elite players.
Phil's teaching diary is already filling up, please call 01299 271 112 to book in and see for yourself what a great coach he is. Phil has also teamed up with Titleist to offer an intro package, £20 for 45 minutes and FREE Titleist golf balls. This is limited to the first 20 people to sign up so be quick. It is normally £25 for a 30 minute lesson so this offer great value.

Clubhouse Update.
I had a meeting with bar manager George last week and he and the kitchen team just wanted to thank everyone for the kind words and support of the new food. The new Panini and food specials have been flying out with food sales up by 20% of the projected target. I must confess I have sampled all of the new food over the last 10 days and it is a massive improvement and also offers great value. I also received a lovely letter from the Shortheath Liberal Golf Society who said the CMGC full English breakfast was the best they have ever had on their travels. Everyone is welcome to use the clubhouse facilities even if you are not a member. Come and give us a try!
Some of the highlight from the kitchen this week…
Don't forget the mid week roll ups have returned on Wednesday evenings. Just simply roll up between 3pm and 5.30pm get a partner and enjoy nine holes. It is a very sociable evening with a few beers always sunk after. If you are stuck at work and cannot make the golf feel free to pop up and enjoy the clubhouse atmosphere.
Ian Orme Success at the Men's Double Roll Up.
With winter now well and truly a thing of the past it was great to see so many members of CMGC back playing in competitions. The first qualifier of the season has already seen some players getting their handicaps cut.
Early starter Pat Fleming recorded 38 point to finish third missing out on second place through count back. Pat did however pick up two gross two's on his way to a fine score. Paul Liggins also shot 38 points and with a superior back nine score took second place.
The day however belonged to Ian Orme who cruised to 39 points and clinch his second win of the year. Ian has been a very steady performer over the winter working hard on his game. The practice is certainly paying off and the talk of the club is that he could be set for a great season. Well played Ian and thank you to everyone who entered. Final standings.
1st - Ian Orme - 39 points
2nd - Paul Liggins - 38 points - count back
3rd - Pat Fleming - 38 points
