Well that was a shock for us all on Saturday morning, CMGC was white all over. Just when we all thought we missed it a dump of the white stuff came down between midnight and 3am. Sadly the busy Texas AM had to be cancelled with the course unplayable until the afternoon. It was a complete contrast with: myself, Tom, club Captain Jon and new member Paul Brown playing 18 holes in stunning sunshine just 12 hours before. Made all the sweeter by mine and Paul's Matchplay victory. That's life I guess, we have rescheduled the Texas AM for Valentines day (Saturday 14th). Let's just hope that the snow has finished!
Stuburt Photo Shoot
Last Thursday CMGC hosted the 2015 autumn/ winter photo shoot for Stuburt golf apparel. We were approached by Stuburt to host the day and model the new apparel line! Of course it was an offer we could not refuse with international exposure for the golf course, and who knows the catwalk could then be calling for us! Local sport and branding company Elton Gidney did the photos and despite rain, snow and sleet the sun did come out and we are hopeful some great pictures were taken.
Stuburt Managing Director Graeme Stevens was also on site to help with guidance on the shoot… that's when he told us that they plan to get over 20,000 of these brochures printed to distribute worldwide!
The latest Stuburt winter range was great but the products that we modelled were unbelievable the bonded fleeces, jumpers, accessories, waterproof suits and wind stoppers were of the highest quality. I'm sure we will see the brand continue to grow at a rapid pace. The new line of shoes will be with us from March and like the apparel are of the highest quality and very stylish.
Unfortunately I cannot show to many pictures but here are a couple of behind the scenes shots.

With strong winds and frozen greens, play shots with a low flight into the greens and off the tees where possible, punching the ball with your irons and playing off your back foot.
This will hopefully keep the ball on target and will prevent the ball from bouncing through the green.
Hit the gym, I work hard on my cardio in the winter and so should you as it can help your golf.
Just doing 30 minutes a day can make all the difference, with five holes to play when your normally getting tired it you will retain focus and stamina when others will fail, this will give you the edge and help you clinch victory.
Keep your hands warm! Your hands are your only link to the club, and you need feel to play good golf. If your hands are frozen, you lose all your feel and your game will suffer, especially around the greens. Get yourself a nice pair of mittens and/or some hand warmers for your pockets. Wear the mitts whenever you aren't hitting a shot, and take them off prior to hitting.
Each month our club captains will be giving a little update on the goings on within the club. Thanks to Jon, Maurice and Julie for their input.
First to feature in the newsletter is Jon Gaskell
Welcome to the first Captains corner! It has certainly been a busy time for Ange and myself over the last month, travelling to the southern hemisphere (New Zealand) to visit our first grandchild Ryan and our family. Although it was a very busy time we did manage to fit in a few rounds of golf where we were greeted with wonderful hospitality and some of the most breath taking scenery you will ever find on a golf course apart from CMGC of course!
Even though I have been away I have kept a close eye on club activities and there have been some great results to start 2015. Beginning with the first competition 'Men's Yellowball" won by Bob Lucas and his team. Congratulations to my vice captain Dave Moore and his team taking second place. Also a brilliant knock from Paul Liggins and John Westley in the singles competitions after that.
I truly believe that 2015 is going to be a great year for CMGC who have a very young enthusiastic team of Amy, Dave, Tom, Sam and Matt who I know have some exciting ideas for the club which I am sure will take this wonderful golf club to a new level.
Finally I would like to wish you all a very happy, healthy and successful 2015, lets make it a good one.
You're Captain - Jon Gaskell.
Next week we will have the thoughts of Julie followed by Maurice.
Josh Carpenter Top 25 finish on the Gecko Tour
Josh is currently playing on the Gecko tour for those that don't know and is over in Marbella in 17 degrees heat! Big comparison to 4 degrees here at CMGC! Round 1 took place on the Santa Clara Golf Marbella, where Josh shot an impressive 2 under. The next 2 consecutive rounds were played on Marbella Golf Country Club. Round 2 and 3 saw his score dip slightly to over par but 4 birdies over the last two rounds made sure he secured a Top 25 finish.
Well done Josh, best of luck for the next competition, let's hope you can get a Top 20 finish or below!
Pringle does it again
With the wind and rain howling, usual weather for a Wednesday (Ladies Day), the ladies decided on a 3 ball alliance, which was decided over a boiling hot coffee first.
The competition was to be held over 9 holes on Foxes Run. After contending with a range of weather types Heather Pringle continued her good form and led her team to victory; outperforming the rest. The team consisted of Heather Pringle, Sian Hawes and Amy Millward. This is what Amy Millward had to say on the game: 'it was really tough out their today with the wind and the temperatures dropping, however Heather, Sian and myself all came together and put in a good performance'.
