Greetings from Cleobury Golf

Good day from the one and only CMGC! We are almost into February now and hopefully just a matter of weeks away from the new season. The Cleobury revolution has once again continued with Craig and Stuart joining the club this week, we also had our busiest members competition of the winter last weekend. The good times are well and truly here to stay at Cleobury it is great to see everyone getting involved with the club and most importantly enjoying their golf!

If you have any friends or family that you think would be interested in joining us please tell them to get in touch on 01299 271112 or click here to send us a message.

The Texas AM this Saturday is looking very busy with 16 team already down. Remember visitors are welcome to play in this competition with Cleobury members.

This image was taken of the 3rd hole on the Deer Course on Saturday. I'm sure you will agree it looks absolutely stunning, the greenkeepers really do need congratulating on the current course condition. When so many other courses are on temporary greens at this time of year!

If you have never played golf before, or are just a bit rusty, Get into Golf is the best starting point for you. The sessions are fun, sociable and held in a relaxed atmosphere where you'll learn the basics and find out about follow-on opportunities.

The Golf sessions will run for 5 weeks with each session running for one hour. Each session will have a maximum of 8 people participating so it will be a great way to meet and socialise with fellow new golfers. Equipment is provided so there is no reason not to give golf a go! The 5 week Get Into Golf package is just £25 a person meaning each session is just £5.

Titleist Mania At CMGC

We have just taken delivery of a wide range of Titleist products. Many of you will know the close relationship we have with the brand. Titleist gave us ball contracts at the end of 2014 based on our performance. We have the Velocity and DT Solo range with the CMGC logo on. The latest Perma Soft gloves which are premium Cabretta leather offering maximum comfort and grip. We have a small run of them on trial at the moment and offering two for £20 (they are normally £15 each). This is a great opportunity to test them out and see how great they are for a very low price. However be quick as we don't have many on the trial price!

Now the part you are all waiting for…. The New Pro V1 Is Now In Stock! After months of waiting the new number one ball in golf has touched down at CMGC.

They are priced at £12.50 a sleeve or £40 a dozen, the first twelve people to buy a dozen will get a 2 ball trial for FREE. Also the first two people who purchase a double dozen will get two trial packs and a limited edition Titleist sunglasses case. Feel free to call us and pay over the phone and I can make sure you are one of the first twelve.

Scratch Team 2015

The Scratch Team fixtures for the forthcoming season have been arranged and I can't wait to get started. We tee off our campaign Away at Hollywood G.C on Sunday 12th April quickly followed by another Away match at Lichfield G.C on Sunday 19th April. The matches consist of 8 single matches and are always played in a fun and competitive nature. Over the last couple of years two of our talented golfers, Sam Pain and Josh Carpenter have turned pro which has enabled new players to break in to the team including the talented young lads, Jack Severn, Alex Barnes and Josh Rowbotham.

As we move towards the season we feel we have a good mix of youth and experience in the team and hope to push for promotion once again. I would like to thank the members of C.M.G.C for all the support and encouraging words they give the team and if anybody would like to play for the Scratch Team this season please sign up in the changing rooms or golf centre. A full list of the fixtures can be found throughout the clubhouse. Finally I would just like to wish you all a great golfing season and to everyone representing C.M.G.C in fixtures this year the very best of luck.

Some tough conditions met the ladies for the 5th order of merit event. Heather Pringle however was the lady who dominated the field, having a steady back nine of 18 points, playing alongside Julie Currie, Lady Captain

Heather had to say on her game, "I drove the ball well today and my short game helped as I sunk numerous long putts. I'm pleased with how I played considering the conditions"

Men's Double Roll Up

The busiest winter's competition of the season took place this past weekend at CMGC with over 50 playing in the double roll up. This weekend competition allows players to play on either day with the best overall scores winning. Conditions on Saturday were slightly tougher with Dave Smith, Rich Smith, Gordon Moriaty and Steve Scrace all scoring 38 points. With a superior back count Scrace lead the way going into the Sunday.

Division 2 winter order of merit leader Colin Hopewell once again continued his fine form with 38 to finish 5th and pick up precious points. New member Eduardo shot 39 points which we thought was enough, however both Wayne Poulton and Dave Slater had a superior back count to finish 3rd and 2nd.

The weekend however belonged to John Westley who shot a very impressive 40 points. John even had a slight wobble with two no score holes on the back nine. However his level headed playing partner Paul Liggins helped him keep it together. John had this to say 'I have been playing some good golf this year and getting an individual win is a great feeling, I held some good putts at the right time to keep the round together'.

Cleobury coach Sam Pain had this to say 'John has been very steady all year with some great team wins. He is a very good player off his handicap and I am sure it will be the first of many. I am also delighted for Dave Slater who has been having lessons with me over the winter. We have been working really hard on his driving accuracy, finding fairways is crucial this time of year and it certainly paid off for Dave today.'

Final Standings

1st - John Westley - 40 points
2nd - Dave Slater - 39 points
3rd - Wayne Poulton - 39 points
4rd - Eduardo - 39 points

Don't forget the poker night is this Friday! Everyone welcome - 7 for 7.30 start.

Have a great golfing week and we hope to see you at CMGC very soon.
