Course Update

As mentioned last week the course is still in amazing condition. The greens on Foxes and Deer are rolling so true and quick. The fairways and surrounds are also so lush at the moment.

Badger's greens have settled down and this bit of rain forecast will certainly aid the recovery process.

We have a very busy few days ahead with The Ian Dennis memorial golf day this Saturday.

Ian was a member of CMGC but was sadly taken away far too young. His son Paul and close friend Alan Preece started the day in his memory and have made thousands for charity.

They have 120 playing Saturday, fingers crossed more money is made for a great cause.

On Sunday we have the Robert Rock junior golf tour here. European tour player Robert started this a few years ago and has events all over the Midlands.

We were lucky enough to be chosen to host an event. 90 juniors of all abilities will be here which is great to see. CMGC has always been a big believer in junior golf and how it is the future of the game.

Captains Classic

This is one of the favourite competitions of the year here at CMGC. A pairs betterball competition with the club captain (Paul Judge) and a member of the pro shop team joining forces. The top 6 pairs to beat them would win a bonus prize of a bottle of wine provided by the captain.

My memo from Paul must have got lost in the post as Jack Severn was asked to play! On paper many thought they would win the competition.... how wrong we were.

Bob & John

They actually finished with 31 points which according to Tom and Josh is the lowest total in living memory! The top two scores were actually separated by countback!

Ian Gough and Graham Perks had 44 points which included 21 points on the back nine. It is great to see Graham playing well having invested some time with myself on his driving!

They were however beaten by an ex-captain and John Westley! Bob Lucas and John had 23 points on the back nine to win on countback.

Bob had this to say:
'It is obviously great to win the competition and get the trophy with my pal John. BUT it is all about the bragging rights as an ex-captain it is great to get one over the current captain Paul'.

Golf Boots

The golf boot is always a massive seller, last year they were like gold dust! This time we have ordered a massive 30 pairs in whole sizes (they are thicker than normal so they do not do half sizes).

This year's model are priced at £65.

The Stuburt Evolve Sport 2 is a fully waterproof boot that has been designed to combat challenging ground and all weather conditions by providing all-round support and durability. Golf Lessons

Golf lessons have still be very busy for myself which is amazing and i am very thankful to everyone for the support.

With the weather turning the good news is that the studio is now open for lessons.

HOWEVER, due to the change in regulations both myself and the golfer (you) would need to wear a mask. I will try and do lessons outside (weather permitting) however please be mindful that if you would like a studio lesson these are the rules.

All lessons are still taken through the pro shop (not online) please give us a call on 01299 271112 to get booked in.

I must give a shout out to Pete Sniadowski who came to me Monday for a driving lesson to help battle a slice.

Then, on Tuesday, he won the competition with 39 points!

Hopefully, Pete will not mind me mentioning this was the first time we had played under in a competition this season! It was a nice top 2 with Ian Ludford finishing second just behind Pete.

Golf on Tour

The big guns return

It’s been a strange year for the European Tour so far. Cancelled events, rescheduled tournaments and even new tournaments created. The pandemic hit the Tour hard and with relatively modest prize money on offer in the past few months, many of Europe’s biggest names have been Stateside.

This week will be different, though. The likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Ian Poulter will return for the Scottish Open following the conclusion of the big-money FedEx Cup and the U.S. Open. It should be an exciting week of top-quality golf in East Lothian. We can’t wait!

Getting it right
