Hello one and all! Another week passes by... can you believe we are in August?
*I apologise for the version sent out last night, that was a mistake from my marketing team. Hopefully, this version makes for a better read!*
This week we have plenty to cover (as always). Grab a drink, have a piece of cake and enjoy. |
Emily Price – English Amateur Champion I’m sure many of you will remember the very talented Emily Price who was a member here at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club for several years before heading of to America on a golf scholarship. Well, last week Emily was crowned the 2020 English Women's Amateur champion after she defeated Lily May Humphreys in a thrilling final at Woodhall Spa. Emily came through the 36 hole stroke play event before victories in the last 16, quarter finals and semi-finals In the 36 hole final, Emily won the 16th and 18th holes to head into the break all square before a quick start in the afternoon saw Emily go a couple of holes up before sealing victory on the final nine with a 4 and 3 victory. This really is a fantastic achievement from Emily and is no surprise to the CMGC members who will remember the constant hours of practice Emily put in. |
Rabbits Cup 01/08/2020 A beautiful summers day greeted the 67 players on the 1st August, this allowed for some solid scoring from Glen Tramaseur going out the early door to post a clubhouse lead of 40 points. Going out in a stellar 21 points round foxes and pairing that with a more than solid 19 points round deer to complete his score, he was asking questions to the rest of the field. |
| Mike Field |
Others with notable scores are Roger Evans, David Mendham and Gary Hingley who all fired a steady 37 points. Also, John Whitehouse came up with a great 39 point comprised of a 18 points on the front and 21 points of the back Put the only man that had any answers to Tram’s early questions was Mike Field. In his round, Mike made 6 nett birdies and only dropping one point in his entire round leading to his round of 41. Mike tributes .his good play to his mentor Jim Pearce Mike went out in 21 points and swooped in with 20 on the back to take the win by 1 point |

Another World Number 1 Jon Rahm’s stint at the top of the rankings lasted just a single week. All eyes were on Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson to challenge the Spaniard for that top-of-the-world spot. But it was Justin Thomas, slipping under the radar, who reclaimed it with a win at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. If Thomas had gone under the radar beforehand, he certainly didn’t on Sunday. A combination of pink trousers and outstanding golf saw the 27-year-old steal the show, coming from four shots behind overnight leader Brendon Todd, he overtook the likes of Koepka and Rickie Fowler with a 5-under 65 at TPC Southwind. With so many golfers battling out at the top of the rankings, we want to know how you think is most likely to make a Tiger-esque run and dominate the game in the next decade.
