Hello and a happy new year to everyone! I hope you all had an enjoyable time over the festive period and managed to get some golf in. I would like to thank everyone who supported the golf centre and our click and collect system, (that can be accessed by clicking here) in the lead up to Christmas.
2014 was an unbelievable year for the club with membership stronger than ever, top quality coaches onsite, the course consistently performing and an amazing buzz around the place. We are all striving for even more in 2015 and I can promise you all we are working hard behind the scenes to improve all areas of the business.
For those who missed it we did our annual CMGC Christmas video full of laughs and festive cheer. Check it out by clicking here … oh and of course the onesie charity day!
Now the Christmas period has ended, and all the New Year resolutions have been made, the best way to improve your game apart from practise is to improve your overall strength. This means strengthening your upper and lower body as well as your core. This will give you added distance as well as helping prevent injury.
Cold golf balls don't fly as far as warm balls. Warm 2 balls before you leave for the course. Keep them in your pocket until needed. Use each ball on alternate holes, keeping the other in your pocket to keep them as warm as possible. As long as you do not artificially heat the balls during the round you are within the rules.
Allow for Soft Greens - unless we have had cold night and therefore frosty greens then you will get little if any run on green approaches so factor this into your club choice.
CMGC Withstands Any Condition
We all felt the chill this Christmas and that includes a lot of local golf courses, but not us. Due to our excellent green keepers as lots of the other golf courses in the area closed we were able to stay open and we had a lot of new players playing the course and testing out their Christmas presents.
Here are a couple of video that showcase the course. Even if it is frozen you can still play the shots….. and then theres the aftermath once the frost lifts they still putt great as Sam shows.
Check them out in the links below.
We don't have frost bans, temporary greens and all that rubbish. What we have is skilled greenskeepers who keep the course in great condition all year round.

1st - Jack Severn - 40 points
2nd - Gordon Moriaty - 40 points
3rd - Colin Hopewell - 40 points
A big thank you to everyone that supported the last competition of the year here at CMGC. I think you will all agree that it has been a great year for the competitions with great entries and some even better golf being played!
Colin Hopewell and Gordon Moriaty finished the year off in style both shooting 40 points to take 2nd and 3rd place. The weekend however belonged to the talented teenager Jack Severn (still only 13) and playing off a handicap of 5 who also shot 40 points but with a superior back count took home the top prize. Jack scored one over gross on front nine & back nine, (3 birdies). His custom fit Titliest driver, 3 wood & Mizuno irons have given him improved consistency & accuracy, he's only used them twice & he's scored his best 2 rounds in competitive golf ever. Plus he holed 90% of putts from 6 foot. He's been concentrating on his short game during winter.
It goes to show what a difference custom fit clubs can make to your golf. CMGC members get free fittings at Stone!

Men's Yellowball Results 4/1/15
The first competition of 2015 was a frosty affair with baltic like conditions and temperatures greeting the members of Cleobury in the yellowball. This competition is the best two stableford scores each hole, with the yellowball counting as double points. However if the yellowball is lost you can re buy otherwise it's gone for good. A special mention to Tram who phoned us on the 2nd tee to re-buy after loosing it on the first!
The first group out and who had the worst of the conditions was Ian Baker, Phil Baker, Dan Berwick and Richard Kimberlain. Together under Ian's leadership and captaincy they shot 109 points which was a great effort considering the conditions. The were however just pipped to top spot by the second to last group out. The experienced Bob Lucas his good friend John Westley and the Cleobury awesome double act of the Lau brothers thought they had blown it on the last with just 3 points scored. This did not matter however as they came in with 120 point.
Bob Lucas had this to say on behalf of his winning team 'that was some of the toughest conditions we have ever played in here at Cleobury and I have been a member for over 20 years! The team played some great golf and it's an honour to win the first competition of 2015'.
Well played, and thank you to everyone that entered.
1st - Bob Lucas, John Westley, Phil Lau, Steve Lau
