Season's greetings from CMGC! Another week passes us by as we get ever closer to a new year. We have had a couple of hard frosts and more rain but once again the course has continued to hold up to the elements. Don't forget to book your tee times for Christmas and of course the golf centre will be open for all your last minute gift ideas.
Club Course
Last Monday myself and Tom made our way down to St Ives for a two day intense Golfsmith club assembly course. What we thought would be nice and easy as we make a few clubs the course was far from that! The course was hosted by Rob and Neil who are expert club fitters and assemblers, Neil actually works on the European Seniors tour and has worked on many tour players including Nick Faldo in his hayday, as you can imagine they certainly know their stuff! What me and Tom later found was that this course is for advanced club assembly and more comprehensive than what is taught through the PGA training!
We both really enjoyed the course and thankfully passed the exam with flying colours below are some of the topics that were covered.
What we didn't realise is what goes into the club repairs and how little things can make a difference. Rob and Neil recommend that if you play golf on average once a week or go to the range or practice area you should be getting you loft and lies checked on your clubs twice a year as the constant impact would slowly move them….. When was the last time you had yours checked? An example of this is that on my clubs there was just a 1 degree difference in loft between my 6 and 7 iron which clearly means there is not much difference between the two!
Starting in 2015 we plan on investing in the equipment required to make CMGC the one stop destination for club repairs. We are also in talks with Motocaddy about being an authorised repair centre. This marks an exciting time for CMGC as it bring a new dimension to the business and a more comprehensive service to our members and guests.

Christmas Party
A massive thank you to everyone that attended the 2014 CMGC Christmas party. It was a brilliant night with some great laughs with friends. George, Sally and the team served us all a stunning Christmas dinner and for anyone in attendance the first song of the night sung by Graham was one of the stand out moment of 2014! DJ Lou of Stourport put on a brilliant set into the early hours of the morning it was great to see upstairs so busy and everyone enjoying it. Don't forget Christmas parties are available into the middle of January please contact George or Rose to book in.
Me and Sam got called up to sing Mr Brightside by The Killers - CMGC member Ian Pringle said 'That was in my top 10 all time favourite songs until you two sang that… cheers boys'.

The 2015 CMGC diaries are in the golf centre and ready for collection.

Be positive- Studies within golf and specifically putting have shown that imaging negative outcomes for a shot can result in a massive decline in performance. So always be positive over your shots and never let yourself image a negative outcome with your golf.
Amy
The most used club in your golf bag is the putter; therefore focus on the fundamentals to improve your Putting. The '5' fundamentals are: Pace - The speed of your putts, Path - The direction the ball travels on the green, Pendulum - The tick-tock motion of your putter, Patience - Relax and take your time, Practice - The only way to improve your putting. Master these 5 'P's' and you will be well on your way to a better stroke and lower scores.
Turkey Trot Results
The final team competition of a memorable 2014 at Cleobury Mortimer saw 14 teams contest the annual Turkey Trot Texas AM. This unique competition gives the winners vouchers to be used at the local butchers and go towards their Christmas dinner! There were some great teams on paper, however a hard frost overnight certainly made it more favourable for the afternoon starters.
Ian Baker, Dan Berwick, Phil Baker and Richard Kimberlain topped the leader board early on with a great score of 88 in their first CMGC competition. The formidable foursome of Stu Humphries, Ross Moorecroft, Rob Winnall and Dave Siddons continued their form with 92 points to lead most of the day. Paul Jones, Jem Jones and Ian Downes also shot 92 points to take the lead on count back which was a stunning effort considering they were a man down. That was until the Captains team came in, Jon Gaskell (captain) Ian Pringle, Gary Hawes and Dave Moore shot an incredible 96 points to win the Turkey! What was also incredible is that Dave Moore was spotted on Broad Street at 3.30am the night before so did really well to make his tee time and play as well as he did! Captain Jon had this to say:
'we all played some great golf out there today, the course was in great condition and we had some great laugh, well done the team'.
Director of golf Dave Pain added:
'it really was a great performance by the team in tough conditions. I must also commend Paul, Ian and Jem for their performance with just three of them. It is competitions like this that the Cleobury membership is all about fun, competitive, great scoring and everyone enjoying each other's company in the clubhouse after'.
A massive thank you to everyone that played, nearest the pin winners - Andy Johnson and Rob Pinner
