Welcome back to another edition of the weekly newsletter, covering all of the goings-on in and around the golf club. Another week passes us by as we make it into February, a dry week has been forecast and the high winds we have experienced have dried the course out nicely. Enjoy this week’s read.

Nick Firth wins again
The weekend roll-up was a true test of endurance with strong winds making playing conditions very difficult. It was once again the usual suspects taking the top spots in their respective divisions. Ian ‘Nobby’ Gough was at it again with a very impressive 37 points around the Deer and Foxes combination. |
An interesting stat on Nobby’s golf is that in his last 9 competitions since October he has been under in 5 of them, made even more impressive as the other 4 he has been in the handicap buffer. In division 2 Nick Firth was once again victorious with 34 points. Nick has played so consistently over the last few months that he is surely the player to watch off his handicap going into the season.
Here is another classic picture of Nick.

Lancashire Overseas Pro-Am
Last week Jack Severn was luckily invited to play in one of the biggest pro-am events in Europe at Quinta Do Lago, Portugal. The field included 47 teams, including big-name players such as Peter Finch (Golf YouTube Professional), Matthew Nixon (Challenge/European Tour Player) and David Shakelady (Senior Tour Player and two-time winner this season). The Pro-Am was Stableford battled out over 3 courses at Quinta Do Lago. After arriving 3 days early, so Jack and his team, captained by Matt Maguire, could acclimatise to the unfamiliar good weather, the competition ironically kicked off with some rather British weather reducing the first round to just 9 holes. However, the weather cleared and the rest of the week weather-wise was super. Jack is using this competition to practice ready for the up and coming season, and pick the brains of the other pros around him to help better his game.
|
Jack has said he has learned a lot from the week and firmly knows where his weaknesses and strengths lie. The pro shop assistant has two months before his first main event being Euro Pro Q-School on the 1st and 2nd April. He will be working hard with the team around him to get himself into the best position possible to have a run and potentially get a card. This, itself, will be a learning curve where he can pit himself against other pros trying to play for a living while playing as an amateur. Feel free to pop in and ask him throughout the season how his season is going, you might just learn a thing or two. |

Grahams fact of the week! From the Neen Savage parish magazine, the amount of rain that has fallen here from October to December is 2000 tons per acre or about 400,000 tons over CMGC… No wonder it has been wet!

Peaky Blinders night Is now fully SOLD OUT. Thanks to everyone for supporting the event.

6 Nations Special Well, England didn’t quite have the start they wanted as they lost to France. However, that didn’t stop plenty of you enjoying the Guinness and Breakfast deal for £9.99. We will once again be running it all day for Saturday’s game against Scotland. Have it before or after you play golf. I was, of course, happy to sample…. No beans or egg for me though!

Greenkeepers tidying up The lads have managed to get out onto the course a bit this week to do some tidying up. The hedging along the first of Badgers and third of Foxes have had a very good cut back. The hedge was starting to massively overhang.
Using the pole saw it was cut and put into piles before a wood chipper was hired to turn it all to mulch. |
Pitching the pitch fork... The greenkeepers have asked me to once again drop a polite reminder to use pitch forks. They are used to repair the mark your balls makes when it hits the green. Can we please remember to repair yours and one other on every green? It does appear that more and more are appearing not just after when visitors play but competitions. Thank You! If you need a pitch fork the brushed silver ones are £2 or ones on the stainless ones are £5.

Just one Garmin S62 left The new Garmin S62 has dropped and its already selling very nicely. I am a big Garmin nerd so have obviously picked one up myself! It is feature-packed, as you would expect, but here are the 3 things that really impressed me... - Bigger screen and brighter colours – making it clear to see everything.
- Virtual caddy – every round you play it tracks your shots, after 4 rounds it starts to work out your distances and recommends clubs to hit… clever stuff!
- Wind direction – using the built-in weather app it tells you how strong the wind is and the direction it comes from.
I have one left in stock…. Click here for the best price you will find anywhere!

Did you know we price match competitors? There's often a perception that small, local businesses are more expensive than your high street or online shops, which couldn't be further from the truth in our case. Not only do we offer you a fantastic and professional service, but we also offer a Price Match Promise against our main competitors. So, if you see a product cheaper elsewhere, pop by the shop and have a chat with a member of the team. |

Already this year we've seen the release of new drivers and irons (nothing unusual in that), but now we have something else to show you and we're excited to say they'll be arriving with us soon! |
| Srixon Q-Star Tour golf balls
|
|
Many of you will be big fans of the AD333 ball from Srixon, which has been a mainstay in its range since 2003 - albeit, being improved upon every couple of years.
|
Well, sitting alongside it for 2020 is the Q-Star Tour, which delivers tour-level spin and distance but in a remarkably soft cover - whilst being at a brilliant price point too! |
