At last, we have had a dry spell… this means we have so much to report with a lot going on and even more going on in the future.
I’ll keep the introduction short and sweet with our first proper frost of the year and Ant on the leaf blower with a man’s best friend… A black Labrador!
Enjoy the read!

Thank you to everyone who asks how our young family are. Rafferty is almost two and it is so nice that everyone takes an interest in him when he is at the club.
He is getting quite good at golf now too… Check this out.

Training Grip
One thing we all often fall into is a lazy grip, the grip is vital as it is the only part that separates us from the club! Hand positions can often become stronger or weaker leading to bad shots. Over September and October I was really struggling off the tee. The shot was either…
- A BIG block left - A pull hook - Ripped down the middle
Like a lot of golfers I could not feel the difference between the good and bad shots, the swing felt good which was obviously frustrating with the varied results! I was convinced it was the grip so took drastic measures. I brought a training grip and put it on my sand wedge, it was only then I realised how off my grip had gone. I put it on my sand wedge and just practice half swings to get used to where the hands should be once again. |
|
Almost instant results have come, if you’re struggling with your game and you think it might be your grip, get us to put a training grip on. They are £15, put it on a club you can use in the net or around the short game area… Remember though, you cannot use them in competition play!

James Williams Nights
Last Friday… What a night at CMGC we welcomed James Williams to the club for the Beyond Buble experience. I know many of you were unsure of what to expect but wow what an incredible voice he has! James performed two sets and from the word go had us all in the palm of his hand. We were also raising money for the Steve Bull Foundation and Promise Dreams which do so much to help the less fortunate and children around the Black Country. The final amount raised is still been added up with a few auction and sponsorship items to come, we should know the exact amount next week. |
|
Below are a few photos of the night. We will be getting James back in the summer and hope to see you all here again for him. A huge thank you to all that attended and made it so much fun and also thank you to George, Sally and Claire for the incredible meal that was served. |

Doubles Winners
After having to rearrange the doubles final a few times due to the weather Lewis Hodges and Karl Tyers took on Andy and Simon Johnson on Saturday.
The Johnson brothers very rarely loose especially at Cleobury. However, Karl and Lewis used their length off the tee to perfection to get the win and take home the trophy. Karl and Lewis are a formidable partnership in the Worcestershire Handicap League and took this form into the club knockout. Can anyone defeat them in 2020?

Roll Up Winners
Foxes Run onto Deer Park is always the hardest combination at CMGC, factor in a lot of rain and the pro shop were thinking something like 38 points might win the competition. How wrong could we be? Some of the best golf of the year was played on this combo!
Ian Gough continued his fine year with 39 points to take second place in division 1, Warren Fettes also shot 39 points including 21 on Deer Park to take second place in division 2. Top spot in division 1 and 2 was taken with a massive 42 points, Harry King playing off 15 was one over gross on Foxes on his way to his biggest score of the year. In division 1 Charlie Edwards was even more impressive shooting level gross for all 18 holes to also finish on 42 points.
Some great golf played over the weekend everyone, keep it up going into a weekend Stableford, you can sign up via the BRS here.
