Goooood Morning from the one and only CMGC! As this email lands in your inbox the professional alliance at Cleobury will be in full swing, 21 teams are expected and a big thank you to the membership for supporting it so well that we have FOUR teams from Cleobury in it. Fingers crossed next week I will be writing about a team success.
We have also had the first frost in a long time which certainly beats the wet weather. We are hopeful for a coldish winter as it firms the ground up and we will be able to get the buggys back out. Most golfers prefer cold and frosty morning rather than wet and windy ones! The greenkeepers were also out handcutting the tees and surrounds last week giving some definition back to the course and easier on the eye.
As you can see above the tees are looking awesome with the fresh cut and despite a cold and frosty morning, the greens are still putting great.

Here are a couple of examples are some crazy bargains you can pick up….

1 dozen ad333/soft feel - £14.50
FootJoy GreenJoy shoes £35
The golf centre will be open from 8am until 6pm. Once the stock is sold its gone forever.
Remember the colder weather and the ball not running on the ground as much can mean you won't be getting your usual distance so don't be afraid to take an extra club.
Work on strength and flexibility during the winter. Pro golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Sam Pain and Rob Grier often use the winter period to improve their physical conditioning. That alone won't improve your golf swing, but losing some weight, adding muscle and working on your core can help you avoid injury and play better when the summer months roll around. Don't forget CMGC members get discount at the fantastic Teme Leisure gyms.
During the winter most people will play less and less so therefore instead of stopping altogether focus on practising the areas of your game which affect it negatively. Therefore when the season gets kick started again your game is likely to be more refined helping you to get a better start which may help you lower your handicap earlier in the season.
Wear a rain glove! I swear by these and a no brainer during the winter. Put away the leather and all weather gloves. These rain gloves actually get gripper the wetter they get. A massive bonus when out on the course as it will stop the club turning in your hand. Pick up a FootJoy for £12.50 or Srixon for £15 at CMGC. The best purchase you will ever make!
November Double Roll Up Results Gifford Back on Form.
Despite some shocking weather in the lead up to the weekend the greenkeepers of CMGC did a fantastic job in getting the course to a playable condition. Some fantastic golf was played over the weekend with Stu Humphries shooting 5 over gross on the first day to record 37 points and take the overnight lead. The weather was more favourable on Sunday and Simon Eades made the most of it. A shocking front nine score of 13 points was soon forgotten as he destroyed the back nine taking 24 points to finish on 37. The ever consistent Rob Winnall also continued his fine winter golf form with 38 points to take second place.
The weekend however belonged to George Gifford (pictured) playing off a handicap of seven; George shot four over gross to record 39 points. George had this to say 'it is amazing what a clear head and focused mind does I played some good golf today and hope to kick on over the rest of the winter season'.
As it was a roll up prizes are from the golf centre.
