Hello from CMGC!
Another very busy week for all involved here at Cleobury with the new captains confirmed and the members' competition on the 29th looking set to be one of the year's highlights.
Although golf buggys are still off the course has taken many by surprise with how dry it has been. Some brilliant rounds of golf have been played and as the picture shows the course is still looking better than ever.
Tom and I have once again been out on tour having a game at some other local courses and we are still waiting to find somewhere that has better greens… suggestions on a postcard please!
Whilst updating our social media channels I came across this picture from world number one Rory McIlroy. With the golf season kind of finished now (apart from the Race to Dubai) you would like to think that the worlds stars would be having a holiday. It doesn't look like it, he is working hard in the off season. Which brings me onto what club members should be doing this time of year.
It is now the ideal time to speak to PGA coaches Rob and Sam to get a tailor made program in place for the winter season to make sure you are fully prepared to start the 2015 season all guns blazing.
Rob and Sam's lesson tariffs and contact details can be found by clicking here.
Once again we have also managed to find time for some videos using our new camera. We are really going to try and do as many as possible over the coming months. Check out our greensomes/foursomes one here
Sam
Look back at your rounds from the season and identify which key area of your game let you down. Then seek out professional help and get a plan together this winter to turn that weakness into a strength for the new season!
Winter is an ideal time to make changes to your swing and game
Tom
In the Winter months you might have to dig that little bit deeper to produce a good score and whilst we all like making birdies it's sometimes the par/ bogey save that keeps the momentum going. Stay focused even if the hole hasn't gone to plan as you can always get up and down or hole out from anywhere. Making only a point on a hole can be frustrating but come the end of the round that point could be the difference between winning or losing.
Amy
Keep yourself warm and lock in your body heat. Around 70% of your body heat can be lost through your head so make sure to wear a hat especially on the coldest of days. This will insure that your focus is on the golf and not the temperature.
Dave
Winter is now here it is time to put away the summer spikless shoe. Check your winter shoes studs for wear and tear. A re-spike costs just £10 and will offer you extra stability out on the course. If you are unsure bring them to the golf centre and we can assess if they need doing or not.
2015 Captains Confirmed!
CMGC is delighted to announce the new captain and vice captain is..... Jon 'Big G' Gaskell (captain) and Dave Moore (vice captain).
Jon Gaskell, the former three times British and twice European Side-Car trials Champion and Dave Moore have known each other for many years.
Jon had this to say:
'Dave has always been my right hand man back from the side car racing days when he was with me. I am honoured and excited to be the next captain of CMGC and with Dave by my side once again I am confident we can continue to drive the club and membership forward'
CMGC's director of golf added.
'John and Dave are fantastic members and have CMGC running through their veins. Myself and the management cannot wait to start working with them, it is very exciting times ahead'.
John and the rest of the captains will be driving in on November 29th at 9.15am, this competition is filling up very fast so please book in ASAP and come a little earlier before your tee time to support the new captains.
The format for the 29th has slightly changed with it it now being a one course meal after play for everyone that is playing in the event.
This is a trophy competition (The Captains Classic) and your last chance to pick up some silver wear for the year. After the meal prizes will be given out to all trophy winners we estimate food to be served from 2pm.
If you are planning on bringing extra guests please let me or someone in the golf centre know.
All trophy winners will pick up one of these fantastic tumblers which are purchased by the club committee. You may remember trophy competitions cost more to enter, this is covered by giving out these awesome mementos from your golfing success in 2014.

Men's Stableford Results
After some heavy rain over the week resident PGA professionals Rob Grier and Sam Pain walked the course and decided to make the course as friendly as possible. Therefore the competition was a non qualifier, bunkers GUR and placing everywhere. Some fantastic scores were posted with Steve Scrace, Jim Went, Colin Hopewell and Mr Consistent Rob Winnall all posting 39 points.
John Swithenby also showed his class and composure to shoot 41 points. John had a nightmare out on the course and ended up using 3 different trollies, his first broke, second battery died and finally he used mine (Dave) which does not have a release break. Big well done John, but maybe he should do what the winner Ian Gough did….
Invest in the new Motocaddy S1, Ian shot a fantastic 42 points to take home the £40 first prize. Ian with his fresh wheels and Motocaddy mitts to keep his hands warm cruised to 42 point with a stunning two over gross.
