Captains Classic
Despite a dodgy forecast 20 teams took part in the annual Captains Classic. With Dave tied up in baby preparation it was down to Josh to step up with Captain Jamie. Sadly they did not quite gel and finished on 37 points with 2 blobs! Although everyone wanted to beat them there was still a trophy up for grabs. Bob Lucas and John Westley were cruising with 23 points from nine and they were cruising around Deer Park… until the last…. They both made bogey for one point to finish on 46 which would prove pivotal. |
|
Rich Dutton and Mr PXG Jase Chance also had 23 points from nine and back nine like Bob and John. However, Jase made a lovely par on the 18th for 3 points to give them the win on countback.
Congratulations to Whitehouse, Short, Mendham, Guest, Wilson, Roberts, Cook, Hodges, Lucas, Westley, Dutton and Chance – you 12 win a bottle of wine from the Captain.
Here is Rich with Christian taking the trophy home… Jase sadly declined the photo just to be safe so it didn’t appear on crime watch… joking!

Winter Pairs KO
With winter on its way it is time to take entries for the winter pairs knockout. As always we limit it to just 16 teams so everything gets finished on time. It is over nine holes and better ball match play.
Entry is £6 per pair and can be paid in the pro shop.
This worked really well last year, the draw will be made on 11/11/2020 or if it fills up before then it will be made earlier.
Best of luck to all.

Rainy day jobs continue
So this week has once again been a little wet! The buggies have been on and off over the last few days so if you require one please call in advance to check course conditions.
As mentioned last week we have continued with our rainy day jobs. The irrigation system is now being drained ready for winter hibernation and the lads are in the shed servicing all the machine with oil changes etc. Resident handyman Nigel has been busy more of the outside has been done (look left and up as you come through the main door). Next up is the outside smoking shelter and the changing rooms.

Settling in nicely
Jack and I have been here for just over a month now and I can happily say that we are thoroughly enjoying working here at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club.
For the first couple of weeks we were learning the ways of the pro shop and we are now all set up here. Tom, Dave and Josh have been extremely helpful getting us into the run of things, however I would like to personally thank all of the members who have welcomed Jack and I to the Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club team.
With the warm welcome we have received, it has made it extremely easy for us both to settle in and feel comfortable working here in the pro shop. Obviously quite a lot of you knew Jack from his time as a junior here at CMGC and a few of you will have known me from the amount of time I spend here during the summers but it has been overwhelming how welcomed everyone has made us feel. I always knew that CMGC has been a very open and inclusive place for anyone and everyone, but it has been a lovely start for me working here and witnessing it first-hand.

FootJoy mid-layer
With the temperatures dropping the colder weather has caught many of us out including me! Giving lessons outside caught me out and was freezing so I sought some advice from our FootJoy rep.
I was after warmth and water-resistant… say hello to the FootJoy Thermal mid-layer. It is four-way stretch so when you’re swinging it is easy to move in. The main selling point, however, is the insulated panels to retain body heat. To me, they almost feel a little like a duvet and they don’t half make a difference.
If it is warmth you're after, take a look at these.
If you would like one come direct to CMGC I can do these for £89.99!

TruFeel golf balls
With Titleist releasing the new TruFeel golf ball, we have had quite a few enquiries about them. One of the questions that come in the most is:
‘What’s different about the TruFeel compared to the old DT TruSoft?’
Without going into too much scientific detail, the DT TruSoft has been redesigned with a thinner cover and a change in core in order to keep that signature soft feeling golf ball while increasing distance and greenside control. Sounds great right?
Being a golfer who often used the old DT Trusoft, what are my thoughts on the new TruFeel?
Having already taken the TruFeel for a spin, I personally really enjoyed playing with it. The new alignment lines already on the cover helped my putting greatly, allowing me to start the ball on the intended line, which as you all know, is pretty important out there. It still felt soft like the old DT TruSoft and seemed to fly a little longer too. Having not tried them in the height of summer, I wouldn’t really want to compare them when it comes to control around the greens as I have only played with the TruFeel when the greens have been a bit more receptive. All in all, if you’re looking for a golf ball that performs well all round without breaking the bank, this is definitely the ball for you.
If you want to try the new TruFeel, pop into the shop, we currently have a sleeve which includes a FREE bonus ball for JUST £6. Be quick, the bonus ball packs seem to be flying out the door!

Get winter-ready There's no hiding from the fact that temperatures have dropped recently and the weather has turned a little wet, so you must get your equipment ready for winter golf. One of the most important pieces is your golf shoes, as the last thing you want is to be slipping during your swing. So, for the next four weeks, we're offering to replace the spikes on your shoes for half price. Come in-store to take advantage! |

There may be fewer competitions down the club at this time of year, but that doesn’t mean you should hang the clubs up until spring. Winter provides the perfect opportunity to correct the wrongs and get your game in a better place ahead of 2020 when the season starts again. |
If you rewind to spring 2019, was your game rusty or were you firing on all cylinders straight away? It's often the case that golfers struggle for consistency at the start and it's only then that they come to us for lessons or to work on their game. Why not try something different this year and have some lessons over the winter on your key weaknesses so that when the new season does come around, you're playing better than ever? |
