Welcome to this week’s newsletter. Another lovely week weather-wise and the course is looking in prime condition for a busy weekend. The little touches around the place have not gone unnoticed. The pins will be in tricky places, so if you are playing this weekend enjoy. Sit back, relax and enjoy this week’s read.

Green speed
You may have noticed the greens have picked up a lot of speed over the last 10 days. As mentioned, we have lowered the cut to 2.5mm and rolling them on a daily basis. This is in preparation for the Club Championships and a busy few weeks to get them in peak condition. Due to the levels of play at CMGC 2.5mm is not sustainable as it will simply put the grass under too much stress. They will go back to 3.5mm to finish off the season and roll at between 9/9.5 on the stimp metre. They are currently running at 11 on certain greens.
Have a look at some of the videos below to see how good they are.

Club Championships tips
The Club Championships are here. The biggest competition in the CMGC calendar, the trophy everyone wants BUT with that, there are all sorts of pressures. Below are a couple of things to prepare before play:
- Mark your balls clearly, nothing worse than playing with the wrong ball - Use a leather glove – the feel is so much nicer than a synthetic - Clean your grips with warm soapy water and get them nice and sticky for the weekend - Use a trolley; take the strain off your back -Clean the grooves of your clubs you will need all the help you can get around the fast greens
I am a betting man and fancy Adam Winnall or Jack Severn for the Gross. In the Nett, it could be anyone; Stu Wilson, Mark Broughton, Andy Johnson, Jez Duffield and Ian Gough all have a very strong chance. Jack who is a two-time Club Champion has given a couple of bits of advice. “Just keep grinding, every shot literally counts. If you hit a bad shot, take a breath and compose yourself. If you have had a good day one, go out for a meal in the evening, try and take your mind off winning and go into day two nice and chilled. Finally, get to the club nice and early and have a chip, putt and swing”.

Josh visits Titleist and Footjoy HQ On Monday, I (Josh) was invited to head over to St. Ives (Hunts) Golf Club in Cambridgeshire to get a sneak peek at the 2020 FootJoy clothing and the 2020 and 2021 FootJoy shoes.
We were asked to give feedback and have open discussions on the products to give FJ ideas on future products. We started the day with 2020 apparel (which I’m sure a lot of you guys have already seen from pictures of our 2020 summer pre-book). We then moved onto a couple of 2020 shoes that we got to try on and test out on the range. I’m not allowed to reveal too much about them, but what I can say is that they look and feel awesome and I will be certainly getting some.
The second part of the day consisted of giving feedback on the 2020 range of shoes, followed by 2021 prototypes and having discussions about potential adjustments to future FJ shoes. The ideas flowing from everyone were very interesting and the guys from FJ were given a lot to think about going forward. I was also able to sneak nine holes afterwards to make the most of my trip.
All in all, FootJoy have once again created a fantastic range of apparel and shoes for the 2020 season, with a large variety of styles to suit every golfer.

Hole in one alert
A big congratulations to Paul Harrison who aced the 6th of Badgers Sett on Saturday. Paul’s last hole in one was in 1987 and fair play to him he racked up a bar bill of over £200 to celebrate.
To make this extra sweet, it was a competition, which means Paul bags himself a Hugo Boss watch.

MG’s Golf Day
This Friday we are hosting the Promise Dreams Golf Charity Day. This event is sponsored by MG Shopfronts, HSBC and has the support of the Steve Bull Foundation. Both charities do fantastic work with sick children and fingers crossed we can raise a lot of money to help the local children.
It’s a shotgun start from 12:00pm and will be nice and busy. Feel free to have a go on the £20 tombola for the Srixon bag if you’re in and around the Pro Shop. | |

Community Transport Day
A big thank you to Beverley and everyone that supported the Community Transport Golf Day on Sunday.
Over £5000 was raised on the day which will help in the Wyre Forest area, in which they offer transport to people who cannot drive or use public transport. |

Mark's weekend delight The last weekend competition before the Club Championships was a weekend Roll Up, allowing you to play on either the Saturday or Sunday. |
The weather was fairly kind, apart from a couple of showers late morning but with the greens rolling quick and catching people out the scores were fairly low apart from one player.
In Division One, the prizes all went to players competing on Saturday. Dean Rogers took third spot with 36 points but missed out on countback to Ian Juckes for second place. Ian Gough has been playing some very solid golf recently and is one to keep an eye on in the Club Championships. Ian shot 37 points to take the Division One title over the weekend and head into this weekend with plenty of confidence. In Division Two, Tim Whitehouse took third spot adjusting well to the quick greens. Stuart Wilson is another player to keep an eye out for the Club Champs as he returned 38 points to take the second spot, but the weekend belonged to Mark O’Brien who cruised around the golf course scoring 41 points and seeing a nice handicap cut. Mark was out bright and early so could enjoy freshly cut greens and had his feet up in the bar before the rain showers came in. Well played Mark.

CMGC Scratch Team
The CMGC Scratch maintained their 100% home record with a hard fort win over Bewdley Pines. Jack Severn led the way, halving the opening match against his county teammate, before Rosanna Halls, playing in only her second game for the team earned a crucial point for the team with a 1up victory in the second game out. Josh held his nerve down the stretch with a 15-foot putt on the last to also secure a 1up victory. Another 1up victory went to Martin Bower and halves from Phil Lau and Andy Johnson put the result in our favour. Dave Bessant took the sweep with a solid 4&3 victory to give the team a 5 ½ - 2 ½ win.

Revealed: Our favourite trolleys of 2019 |
Push trolley or electric trolley? Do you have a preference or have you not really thought about it that much? We have both covered as we reveal the best trolleys money can buy in 2019, and both of these winners are available through your very own pro shop. |
| Push to pass - Motocaddy Z1 Happy to go around under your own power? Then you can’t go wrong with Motocaddy’s Z1 push trolley. The Z1 is our top pick when it comes to value and practicality from a push trolley, not just because its lightweight nature is a joy to handle around the course, but also because the easy-to-fold two-step system makes it quick and easy to transport.
|
| Go electric - Motocaddy S1 Want to take a load off and let the trolley do the bulk of the work? Then there are none better than Motocaddy’s electric S1. A whisper-quiet 200W motor provides ample power throughout your round, allowing you to stay fresh for the back nine. Its stunning high-resolution LCD display has been updated for 2019 and keeps you ‘up to speed’ with battery life and speed settings.
