Welcome to this week’s newsletter. Another week in paradise here at CMGC with the fine weather and lovely course conditions, there is nowhere better to be. |
We have plenty to report as always but for any member please remember it is President’s Day this Saturday. Our President Tom Straughton is well into his 80’s but does so much for the club. For the day there is prizes available for the 27-hole, 18 hole and 9-hole competitions.
You can sign up via the BRS. With over 70 already signed up across the board, it would be amazing to get over 80 playing.
Enjoy this week's read. |

Keeping you up to date
Not a great deal to report this week, the new mowers are really coming into their own now the standard of cut on the greens has drastically improved. The more consistent cut has got the overall roll on them much nicer.
The bunkers have all now been topped up and again much improved I even left one in the bunker on Monday as there was so much in there. Some of the fairway faces have also been tidied up, in particular, the 8th of Badgers sett, again a massive improvement. The trenches are also starting to fill in.
|
Last week we reminded you about raking bunkers, this week can we ask you all to keep on top of pitchmarks. There seems a lot more about recently. Enjoy your golf at the moment, you cannot beat CMGC.
Rare fungus spotted
Have you seen the ‘Devils Finger’ fungus at CMGC? Its smells like dying flesh which is not nice but it looks cool out on the course.

A date not to be missed
Friday, 6 September is the annual Promise Dreams Charity Golf Day here at CMGC with member Mark Greenfield who does a lot of work for the club with tee markers etc being the main sponsor and organiser of the day.
|
We have great sponsorship lined up along with some ex-footballers including Bully who are attending the day. It’s a 12:00pm shotgun start with a prize table of over £1000 up for grabs.
Team entry is £160 for members teams or £250 for visitor teams.
As it’s a shotgun start, only 25 teams are available, so be quick as this will sell out.

Rabbits Cup The Rabbits Cup was up for grabs for the CMGC members on Saturday, 3 August. A strong field of 66 turned out to play with many form players once again in contention. |
In Division One there were good scores from Mark Watson, Guy Taylor and Mike Wood but it was Rob Winnall who took third spot with 38 points after a couple of weeks in sunny Spain. Bob Lucas picked up second spot with 40 points but it was once again Jack Severn who came out on top with 41 points. Jack's scores continue to impress the Worcestershire County with a call up to the Men’s second team who are chasing the league title. In Division Two Simon Hartwell, 39 points and Martin Bedwell, 40 points both had excellent days with a reduction in their handicaps for their efforts but taking top spot and the Rabbits Cup trophy was Paul Judge. Paul finished on 42 points and has seen his handicap cut from 19 to 14 since the end of May. Tom Judge also got in on the act by taking the nearest the pin on the 8th Deer. Well played all, we’ll see you this Saturday for Presidents Day. |

The latest creations
This week, we have the devils work…. Curly fries, bacon and cheese. These are so good and once you have one, you just cannot stop. If this was not enough to send the diet awol, we have Oreo cake on the bar.
|
All we need now is some of Sally’s sausage rolls on the go and we are all set. |
Mathematics can be a complicated subject with all that pi, algebra and calculus floating around, but there is one simple equation we can all understand: uncomfortable golf shoes = a miserable time for all
|
| FootJoy's ContourFIT shoe
|
|
Let’s break down this equation further The main problem here is that walking on hard ground for four hours/18 holes in the summer months can take its toll on our feet. Blisters and bleeding are common signs that something isn't quite right and the issue will only be exasperated if your golf shoes are worn, cracking or ill-fitting.
|
So, what’s the answer? After running the numbers through our super-computer, we end up with a pair of golf shoes that are designed for comfort, like FJ’s ContourFIT. The combination of an extra thick underfoot fit-bed with an Achilles pad will have you walking on cloud nine for the entirity of your round. Why not pop in the shop and try a pair on this summer? |
