100k raised
Last week we talked about the Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation that John and Ange Gaskell set up. On Sunday morning they were just £500 short of raising the £20k needed to take them to £100k. After some extra cash donations from Gary Hingley and Sally Hall plus the JustGiving page, they smashed £1000 in two hours to take them over. |
The day was a massive success with nearly 200 playing in glorious sunshine. Some fantastic golf was also played with the winning team shooting 102 in the best two from four format. The best news though…It will return in 2020…Same time, same place!
A huge thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets and supported the event. The JustGiving page is still active if anyone would like to donate. Click here to make a donation.
Best Female: 1st - Kathy Grieve - 38 points
Best Male: 1st - Steve Billingham - 44 points Division One - Gary Hingley - 40 points Division Two - Dan Winney - 41 points C/B

CMGC lifesavers
Golfers at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club are well known for their friendly and supportive nature, but recent events took it to a whole new level when players literally saved the life of their fellow golfer. When member Rod Moseley checked in for his regular tee-off time at 8:00am on Sunday, 23 June little did he realise he would end the day in Worcester Hospital. On the 2nd tee Rod suddenly collapsed, realising it was serious his playing partners Ian Orme, Graham Edwards and Sue Davies started CPR and alerted the Club staff. Club Pro David Pain and assistant Josh Rowbotham and club member Alan Preece immediately contacted the emergency services and took the Club’s own defibrillator to help revive Rod. Luckily the prompt action and the quick response of the local first responders and Air Ambulance meant Rod was taken to hospital for treatment.
Rod was back at the club on Sunday, 7 July to say thanks to everyone who helped him and buy them all a drink. Club Professional David Pain said “the club invested in a defibrillator over two years ago and we regularly do staff First Aid training, but you never know when you may have to use it. We are all really delighted Rod has made such a great recovery and can’t wait to seeing him playing again soon” |

| 150 Yard Markers | The course yardage markers have had some well needed TLC. We have been out to check the distances and reposition the markers. We have also tried where possible to position them in front of a tree, this should mean they are clearly visible yet shouldn’t be in the way when playing a shot.
Letting me loose with a sledgehammer is never normally a good idea, however, this time I must say they look great. |
| Claire is back! | After a little holiday, Claire is back which means so is the cake. This week she is back with the old favourite, Coffee and Walnut.
This will not be around for long especially with Tom and Graham around. |

What scoring conditions The Lloyds Stableford Trophy competition was certainly a competition people wanted to win with some of the best scoring all year recorded. |
Tom Judge was first in with a huge 44 points telling Josh to get the camera out ready for his picture. Then followed Tom Mason who also had 43 points telling Josh to get the camera out…. "Not this time mate" was his reply. Tom Guest shooting 40 points didn’t even get a mention.
In the afternoon rumours were going around that John Gallagher had 24 points on the front nine, 44 points couldn’t get beat… could it? Well, it did, John managed 21 points around Deer Park to finish on 45 points and break Tom’s heart! The two Toms and John have all had golf lessons off me (Dave) and is it great to see them reaching their goals. - Judge - 14 handicap - Mason - single figures - Gallagher - single figures
They are all getting closer, great work lads.

PT results
After getting to 15 stone Eve finally said enough is enough and I had to drop two stone by October! Obviously being a golfer there is nothing better than a post-round pint or three and a bag of scratchings. I spoke to long-standing CMGC member Harry Boni who is a personal trainer and instructor at Pure Gym. In the last eight weeks, I have dropped over one and a half stone by doing one PT session a week with Harry and cutting down carbs to just 25 grams a day. I had tried various diets in the past however due to the unsocial able and random work hours it made it difficult. Thankfully, the low carb Keto diet has been so easy as the food is so nice.
|
Typical day: Bacon and eggs, protein bar, a bag of mixed nuts, salami and cheese, smoked salmon, broccoli and brie. Plus, lots of black coffee and water.
If you’re interested in dropping some weight get in touch with Harry. If a lazy bum like me can do it, anyone can. Harry charges just £25 per one-hour session when you commit to a minimum of four. He will go to your house or you can like me do them at CMGC.

Pictured is me after a workout with Harry. I can only highly recommend!

Playing out of the sand is tricky enough without complicated rules getting in the way. Fortunately, golf’s hierarchy rewrote the rule book (literally) and from January this year we've been able to do a few things in the sand that we never could before. |
So, what are these new-fangled rules and what do you still need to watch out for in order to avoid a penalty? |
What you CAN do: - Touch or move loose impediments in a bunker (local rule previously)
- Touch the sand with your hand away from the ball
- Ground the club in the sand away from the ball as long as you're not testing the sand
|
What you CAN’T do: - Deliberately touch the sand to test its condition
- Ground the club next to the ball when playing the shot
- Touch the sand on a practice swing
- Touch the sand when making your backswing
