I have just got in from nine holes and it literally feels like March! Sadly the start of the week is not looking great weather wise however rest assured we are working hard to get the course playable for you all. Fingers crossed next week we get some sun and the grass will be growing like mad once again. Despite the wet weather, the first drop of sand has gone into the bunkers. Obviously, with it being so wet it is difficult to assess depth checks and consistency. However, once it has dried out we will check them and get the next load on order.
Enjoy the rest of this week's read. |

Captains' Weekend
"From myself, the section captains and all members of your committee, may I say thank you to all the members who supported us over this weekend. Saturday saw a record turn-out for a Captains' Weekend. All members also gave us great support on the Sunday for the traditional President v Captains match and in the afternoon for the mixed comp. As I said in my speech on Sunday afternoon, your committee had made changes to this year's formats, that has clearly taken the weekend to a whole new level. The support you all showed to these changes is very much appreciated but your committee are not one for "resting on their laurels", as we are sure there are still more changes we can make to increase the appeal of the weekend further.
Congratulations to everyone who won prizes over the weekend and for those of us who missed out, better luck next year”.

The Captains Cup is one of the ‘Cleobury Majors’ for the men and some super scores were recorded in the tough conditions. Defending champion Mark Thompson put up a great fight to finish on 37 points and take third place. Ian ‘Nobby’ Gough shot 38 points to take second place which was a great knock considering the conditions he had to play in (I mean the wet, not his playing partner Paul)! The trophy however went home with Karl Tyers who shot 40 points. Karl is unbeaten in doubles golf this year and is always so solid. He has been close in competitions but it is great to see him get over the line.

| Rosanna Halls |
|
In the ladies, talented Rosanna Halls just pipped Janet Ludford, Janet was on fire after nine holes but just let the lead slip away on Deer Park. Rosanna is playing some stunning golf at the moment and is certainly a name to look out for in the future. |
We had a great turnout for this year's Plunket Salver, the mixed competition that closes Captains' Weekend. The result could not have been closer with three pairs all recording 24 points.
Finishing in third place on countback we had Janet and Ian Ludford, second place went to Anne and Mel Breakwell, with Anne also getting the nearest the pin.
However, the top spot went to the unstoppable pairing of Lynne and Rob Pinner. Lynne and Rob are having an incredible run at present, winning just about everything there is to win in regards to Mixed comps at Cleobury. |

Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation Golf Day For those that read the Kidderminster Shuttle, you may have seen the article and picture (that is 10 years old).
The Charity Day now has nearly 200 playing and we are all working so hard to do it for John and Ange to get them to £100K.
Angela Gaskell and her husband John hold the Annual Charity Golf Day at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club each year to raise money for their foundation, Rainbow Cancer Care, in memory of Angela's mum Doreen Morton, who lost her battle with cancer 11 years ago.
But this year, in a cruel twist of fate, Angela will be unable to attend the fundraiser as she continues her own battle with the disease. The Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation hosts three fundraisers a year and has to date donated more than £80,000 to charities such as Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, Muscular Dystrophy UK and the Midland Air Ambulance.
|
|
This year, the foundation will also be supporting the Millbrook Suite at Kidderminster Hospital, where Angela is currently undergoing treatment. Husband John said: "Our aim is to raise £100,000. We are hoping that our friends will continue with the next two whilst Ange is now fighting cancer herself, so sadly will be unable to attend. “We would like to thank everyone on the Millbrook Suite and all departments for their support and care, together with from everyone at the trust. They are all amazing.” The event costs £35 per person. If you would like to get involved please contact us HERE. |
New clubs bring results immediately
PXG troop Jack Severn, picked up his new driver and 3 wood Wednesday, put them straight in the bag Thursday and messages us this in the evening…
"I had my first outing with the PXG driver and 3 wood shooting 69-3 under first round and a level par 72 second round at Bransford, winning the Youth County Championship Under 21’s and finishing second in the main Men’s County Championship losing by one shot. 100% fairway in regulation off the tee".
These clubs really are special, if you’re after PXG come to CMGC and we can arrange a fitting with PXG UK Fitter, Matt. Our fittings are done with real golf balls on a grass area playing a hole. We are delighted to be hosting a PXG Fitting Day on Wednesday, 17 July 2019. Contact us HERE to book in.

If you’re an equipment junkie, there’s nothing quite like standing on the first tee clutching the latest driver – especially, with the marketing promise of faster ball speeds and greater distance firmly in your mind. The question is, should this be your number one priority with the big stick in hand? |
With the US Open taking place at Pebble Beach this week, one thing the world’s best will need in abundance is accuracy off the tee. Penal rough, fairway bunkers aplenty and the Pacific Ocean combine to create one of the hardest tests in golf. |
Introducing Titleist's TS drivers Two drivers that will be in lots of golfers' bags this week are these beauties from Titleist. As well as the impressive ball speeds and distance gains from its Speed Chassis, there is another feature on the TS3 that will certainly help you find more fairways. Its called SureFit CG, which allows us to adjust the driver's swingweight to help counter any regular misses you might have. So, what are you waiting for? Come and have a chat to us in the shop and we can start you on your journey to better golf this summer. |
