Course updates - New ball washers We have loads to cover this week. First 15 new ball washers have been installed onto the course thanks to MG Shopfronts. These are mainly positioned by the tee map signs and match up with the rest of the course furniture nicely. If when out on the course and you notice one that might be a little low on water please catch a greenkeeper and they can refill them. |

More drainage added If you walked off the first green on Badgers Sett you will have noticed a massive pipe in the ditch area where the drains run into. This has now been locked in place and soil added on top. New drains will be added on the first by the green and filter into this pipe. By adding this pipe it will also increase the walk off areas and reduce wear and tear by the green. As the picture shows the new walk way off the green will be twice as big. |
|
So where did the soil come from to fill in over the pipe I hear you ask? We have increased the ditch area on the 6th of Foxes. This now runs to the bunker on the front right. Again we will be running drains into the ditch to ease surface water. It is also hoped that it will reduce slow play as that is a classic area to lose a ball. It will either be in the ditch or out of bounds. The bunker on the left side has also been tweaked with it now being a pot bunker. |
New Winter tee The 4th of Deer Park is one of the wettest holes in the Winter. We have added a base to start expanding a Winter tee. This is positioned just off the third green. The idea behind this is that you tee off from a level position as opposed to being below the hole on the normal tee. This will make it easier to track your ball flight as it sails into the trees… Or hopefully down the middle! It is also hoped that the reduction in yardage will make it easier for golfers to hit it more level towards the pond where the fairway gets drier. We are hopeful the wetter area will get less wear and tear and be in better condition going forwards. As mentioned, at the moment the base has gone down two layers of quality soil and top dressing will be added before it is over seeded. |
CMGC’s Emily Price update
South Carolina freshman women's golfer Emily Price has been named to the latest ANNIKA Award Watch List, Golfweek announced Tuesday. Price is one of 15 student-athletes currently in contention for the national honour, which recognises the top female U.S. collegiate golfer. The ANNIKA Award Watch List will be updated one more time this spring. The final Watch List (mid-May) will reduce the list to the top-10 individuals. The winner, which will be determined by players, coaches and members of the golf media, will be revealed in June.
Price has moved up the individual rankings since participating in her first collegiate tournament in October. She's currently ranked No. 11 in the latest Golfstat rankings, the second highest freshman in the nation and the highest freshman in the SEC. Her 72.78 stroke average this season is a freshman record and the seventh best single-season stroke average (min. 18 rounds).
|
Price finished in a tie for fifth during the stroke play portion of the 2019 SEC Championships, the best finish by a freshman at the SEC Championships in program history.
She's finished in the top 10 in four of her seven career tournament events. In the match play portion of the SEC Championships she helped lead the Gamecocks to the championship match and a week early to a title at the 2019 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. |

PXG Fitting Day success Last Wednesday our friends at PXG were at Cleobury for our latest fitting day. It was fully packed from 9.00am until 7.00pm. Many people often associate PXG with high end pricing however drivers are now £550 which is more inline with other brands. They are also bringing out a new cast set in July that will be a similar price point to PING! Everyone that was booked in purchased something with Master Fitter Matt getting results for everyone. CMGC’s Jack Severn was generating speeds of 120mph and carrying the ball 299 yards! Gary Hingley also found 35 yards extra off the tee. The day generated £14,000 worth of sales which left everyone happy. If you want to see what PXG can do for you our next fitting day is Friday, 31 May. From 9.00am until late.
The date we have is quite rare as PXG don’t fit on weekends however this Friday is before the bank holiday Monday which many book off.
Please contact us HERE if you would like to book a slot from 9.00am onwards. |
Claire’s Specials Claire and the kitchen team have been busy this week! The specials of the week are pink gin and homemade twix cake! Check out the pictures below and if you're at CMGC this week get ordering from the bar area. |

Mixed Winter League Sunday, 28 April 2019 was the culmination of this Season’s Mixed Winter League. The competition is run by Deborah Fearnley and this year it was played over nine Sundays from October 2018 through to the end of April 2019, with a truly impressive entry from thirty-nine different players competing in the separate leagues for ladies and gents. As one can imagine, given that the event is played over the Winter months, the whole thing is very weather dependant but this year we have been fortunate with only one round having to be cancelled - a great improvement after last year’s awful Winter. |
|
The final places for this season were: |
Ladies Champion - Liz Clewley Ladies Second - Beryl Eastwood Ladies Third - Lynne Pinner |
Men’s Champion - Rob Pinner Men’s Second - Andy Johnson Men’s Third - Adrian Nash |
|
Congratulations to Liz and Rob on their success and to all who played in the event this season, Deborah would like to say a huge thank you for all their support.

April Stableford It is qualifier season and judging by the nervy scoring in the weekends competition the pressure is on to see a reduction in handicap!
Mark Watson took top spot with 36 points from Ralph Punsheon with 35 points. The in-form Tom Quinn was left kicking himself with 22 points front nine but 13 on the back gave him third spot. In Division One Ash Cook, with his brand new driver fitted by Rob in our last demo day, found form straight away with 37 points to take second place. This was with a 4 putt from 15 foot on the first hole…Thankfully Ash brought a new putter off us Friday so wont be doing that again! The day however belonged to James Whitehouse who had 38 points. James has had a very steady Winter and has continued his form. He will be a player to watch this Summer for sure.

One thing that was very noticeable from a Pro Shop point of view... Deer Park meltdowns. Nine players were under their handicaps through nine holes (Badgers Sett) but failed to finish under their handicap for the competition. Only three players Ash, James and Nobby Gough shot under their handicap around Deer Park. Everyone loves Badgers Sett because of its lovely setting, however it is in our opinion the easiest. When you’re next up practicing, go down Deer Park and avoid the meltdown... It might just help your scoring going forwards. |
Ending next week! If you haven't already taken advantage of our Battery Trade-In, you don't have long left to do so. If your electric trolley battery is struggling to complete 18 holes or is not charging quite how it used to, consider upgrading to Lithium in 2019. Alternatively, if you don't know whether yours needs replacing, bring it in-store and we'll check it out for you. |

Golf reduces stress
A psychologist has championed the role golf can play in reducing stress and supporting good mental health. Professor Jenny Roe, environmental psychologist and director of the Center for Design & Health, University of Virginia, says golf is one way of benefiting from a regular ‘dose’ of green space to boost psychological wellbeing and physical health.
“I think to get out and play golf you are really helping manage your mental health in a very holistic way,” she said.
“There’s a wealth of evidence, using robust, scientific methods, to show the benefits of ‘green exercise’ – exercise in the natural outdoors – compared to exercise indoors, including the gym.
“When you step into a green space, there’s a number of things that happen with both your physiology and your psychology. Your parasympathetic nervous system kicks in – the system that’s associated with relaxation – and your stress physiology actually changes. You literally manage stress more efficiently when you are in a green space.

Be honest, how much thought do you put into the golf ball that you play? Probably not as much you do your clubs but considering the ball is in play on every single shot, using any old thing that you find at the bottom of your bag could be leaving you paddling uphill. |
| Which Titleist ball to play? |
|
The first question to ask is: What do you want from your ball? Obviously, getting the thing in the hole in as few shots as possible is the ultimate goal, but there are many paths to getting there. There are balls that offer impressive distance, such as the Titleist Velocity, whilst others that provide incredible feel, such as DT TruSoft. But if you are looking for total performance without sacrificing on any one element, Titleist's Pro V1, Pro V1x and AVX balls are truly phenomenal. With subtle differences between each, this is where having a chat with a member of our PGA qualified team will have you leaving with the best ball for your game - what will yours be? |
