Welcome to this week's newsletter. This past week has been crazy for us here at the club! As you will see below Amy has some exciting news, Josh has moved in with his girlfriend and Dave also has some exciting news to be revealed shortly! The course is starting to get busy now with visitors and members enjoying the fine early season weather. |
Our Taster membership turned into a huge success with 30 taking up this membership. I'm sure they will all enjoy CMGC life and carry on after the taster. On the course we the larger landing areas and wider fairways are starting to really take shape and look fantastic. The greens have had some fertiliser added to get them growing and also turn them greener! This week though it’s all about two things… The Masters and Game of Thrones! Which are you more excited for?
Enjoy this week’s read. |

Marbella 2019
Last weekend Dave and Tom were lucky enough to head on over to Marbella with CMGC members Mark Greenfield and Clive Jordon to participate in The Steve Bull Golf Classic. There was plenty going on throughout the trip whilst raising money for the Steve Bull Foundation. After a couple of red wines we were up bright and early for our round at El Paraiso Golf Course. Starting on the 10th we all pinged it down the middle and were well on our way to having a good score with the highlight been an eight pointer on one hole thanks to gross birdies from Mark and Clive. We finished on 85 points in the best two from four format playing of three quarters handicap which would in fact give us the overnight lead.
On day two we headed over to Los Flamingos Golf Course, for anyone who has played this golf course the first tee shot off the back tees in front of a crowd including the legendary Steve Bull is fairly intimidating with little room left or right off the tee. Thankfully Dave birdied the opening hole to get us on our way but we found the going a little tougher with a couple of dropped shots around the turn. We did still manage to finish up third overall, which was an improvement on last year and give us something to improve on next year.
There was more PXG success as Tom managed to pick up second place in the individual event after some steady golf round El Paraiso. After a couple of tweaks with grip size and shaft weight, Tom turned his weakness with the driver in to a strength by regularly finding fairways giving him plenty of opportunities to put a score together. A more penetrating ball flight has given him better accuracy and more distance resulting in shorter shots in to greens and more realistic birdie opportunities.Hopefully the team can re-unite and top the leader board in 2020 when the event moves over Portugal.

Amy’s Graduation It’s official, I have graduated from the University of Birmingham as a fully Qualified PGA Professional. For the last three years I have been studying and working hard to become a PGA Professional and on Friday that was a reality, there was 120 Graduates from the PGA Degree course, who were supported by family and friends to be awarded a degree from the University of Birmingham and the title Class A PGA Professional. |
The graduation ceremony was preceded by a buffet lunch, while the ceremony took place in the Great Hall of the UOB. It was great to celebrate our success with the other Professionals that I had got to know over my three years of PGA Training. The thing that I was most thankful for was not falling down the steps as the thought of this had made me nervous for the ceremony. I think I had been dreaming about that in the run up to the day! The PGA and the University of Birmingham did an amazing job and made sure we all had a very special day, from making sure we all had our photos taken, to the lunch and afternoon tea, but also the ceremony too which ran perfectly. The speeches made by the CEO Robert Maxfield, PGA Captain Peter Hanna, as well as the Assistant of the Year Michael Bradfield were great to listen too but also to hear stories and advice from them also gave the day and special touch.
I’m looking forward to progressing my career and becoming the best PGA Professional I can be.

Winter Series Our latest round of the Winter Series took us to Bridgnorth where we got lucky with the weather and as their kitchen didn’t open until 11am we got out early and missed the rain. On paper the teams were very evenly matched. Dave and Toms team finished on the same score of 72 points, Josh’s team finished with 76 which was hard to take for Dave’s team as they had zero points on the 15th hole.
Overall, it was a fantastic day as always if your interested in playing in any please get in touch here and we can send you the dates. Josh is the Captain in form at the moment guiding his teams to more wins in 2019 than anyone else.

April Stableford
Qualifying season is definitely upon us with our second qualifier going ahead last Sunday, the weather was good and the course had recovered well from the snow we had received on Thursday. Now that the opportunity to potentially get cut it is here, it seems the majority are trying to get their handicap lowered. |
There was a battle for first place in Division Two this week with two players securing 38 points, however one point better on the back nine gave Graham Perks first place this weekend, with Andy Roberts taking second place. Harry King finished one point behind with 37 points to claim third place. Five points divided the top three in Division One, Ian Gough supplied a score of 38 points, which if Division Two was anything to go by would have given him first place. Charlie Edwards shot a steady 36 points to claim third place, however first place in Division One belonged this week to one of our Club Champions Jez Duffield with a stunning 41 points. Jez had this to say: “I played some great golf today and it could have been better as I missed a few silly putts. I’m happy with where my game currently is!”

Cleobury Juniors Runners-up in Bob Osborn Trophy
Ten golf clubs from the West Midlands did battle this Sunday at Hagley Golf Club, each club had three players, this was last years event which got cancelled in October due to bad weather. The format being best two nett scores counting to the team score and it was Cleobury's girls who shone bright, with Rosanna Halls winning the best girls gross and Abbie Johnson winning best girls nett. However, Cleobury were pipped at the post by host club Hagley who had the best boys gross and nett, but a great display by the team especially the girls who played some gutsy golf. |

Masters food and 5 star review
We had our annual food hygiene visit on Monday and as always, we kept our 5-star rating. A huge well done to George, Sally and Claire who continue to offer fantastic food to the highest hygiene standard, we have a great team in the kitchen offering home cooked food and offering brilliant value. The special this week has a Masters feel.
The legendary Pimento cheese sandwiches with a salad garnish for just £3.75 add chips for an extra £1.25. This will be available up until Monday. I have personally tried it and its fantastic.

A driver is a powerful beast, sometimes too powerful if a hole has a hazard within range. In this scenario, you have a plethero of options to choose from, but there is one that is often overlooked. |
Picture the scene You're stood on a par-4 tee box and there’s a water hazard 240 yards away. What do you do? Many of you will reach for your longest iron on auto-pilot, however a custom-fitted fairway wood might just be the perfect solution; getting you further down the hole and closer to the green. | |
|
Why is this often overlooked? A lot of golfers don't have confidence in hitting their fairway wood because, quite simply, they don't use it enough. But with technology to help you hit them better - such as Active Recoil Channel 3.0 in Titleist's TS metals that help with strikes low on the face - it's time you gave them another go. |
Custom fitting is key We're delighted to see so many of you come to us for a custom fit when you're after a new driver or set of irons, but why does it stop there? A custom fitting is so important in ensuring you get the most from any new purchase, whether that's a driver, fairway wood or putter. |
