Welcome to this week’s newsletter from Costa Del Cleobury, ten straight days of dry weather and sunshine has transformed the course and it’s looking just like summer. Myself and Tom are golfing in Marbella this weekend with Steve Bull and co, the forecast is rain, nothing worse going away when its warmer back home! Josh and Amy will look after you all over the next few days.
As mentioned, the course is really taking shape now, a light layer of top dressing was added to fill in the remaining holes, this now takes the total amount of dressing onto the greens to over 100 tonnes, this should really get them in good shape going into the season. The tees and surrounds have also continued to be cut and get the lines bedded in. The big job this week though has been cutting in the fairways offering some bigger landing zones, this has been done by cutting them with the surrounds mower, blowing the grass off and then going over them with the fairway mower for a nice consistent cut. If you’re playing this week enjoy its lovely out there. Enjoy the rest of this week’s read.

Wednesday Roll Ups
With the clocks changing we can now look forward to some evening golf. The ever-popular 9-hole Wednesday Roll Up will start again on Wednesday, 3 April, this 9-hole stableford competition is always well supported and is a great way to get a bit of golf in throughout the week. The roll up runs all day with the majority of players turning up between 4pm - 5.30pm and is a great way to meet new golfers. However, if you want to play in the day time, you’re more than welcome with someone to mark your card.
The roll ups will ALL be handicap qualifiers (should conditions permit) with scores entered on the PSI in the bar area. Entry is £2 per person, which includes twos sweep, nearest the pin and divisional winners.

PXG Troop Dean wins Weekend Stableford
The Weekend Stableford had a great turn out with 80 people playing over the two days, as usual in this format the top scores from the whole weekend would pick up prizes and this week all the top places went to competitors who played on the Saturday.
|
Dave Mendham continued his fine winter form to shoot 37 points in Division Two which held onto top spot all weekend pipping his good friend Paul Judge who returned 36 points with Rich Dutton taking third spot on countback with 35 points. In Division One, Dean Carpenter, playing off six shot 37 points to take third spot with Dave Bessant (9) hitting form with a very tidy 39 points as one of the days early starters.
Dean Rogers has been in fine form since changing his irons to PXG’s over the winter months and this is once again proving to be an inspired move. Dean, playing off eight, shot 41 points to take top spot and claim another win. Well played Dean, hopefully this form will see Dean reduce his handicap down to a category one player during the summer months.
A quick mention to Lee Glasby and Adam Cook who shot 36 points in Division One on the Sunday but just missed out on the prizes.

Masters Sweep The PGA Tour heads for the World Match Play this week but I know we are all looking forward to The Masters in a couple of weeks’ time. |
Patrick Reed won in 2018 but the Europeans are in great form with Molinari, McIlroy and Casey winning over the last few weeks. We will of course be giving our predictions next week but to get the ball rolling we have got our Masters Sweep up and running.
This year our top prize will be a FootJoy Prize Pack as well as prizes for 2nd, 3rd and 4th and last place before the cut. Entry will remain the same at two picks for £5. Pop along to the Golf Centre to have a go.

Sometimes it's not only their golfing ability that impresses us when watching the world's best on TV, but also the stylish clothing that they wear. Golfers, like Rafa Cabrera-Bello, always wear the latest golf-specific clothing to give them an edge on the course, as you can see below. |
| Rafa Cabrera-Bello | FootJoy clothing
|
|
FootJoy's latest collection for spring/summer '19 oozes style and is, without doubt, one of their best clothing ranges to date. The main thing we love this year is FootJoy's combination of striking colours and block designs, enabling them to create a fashionable range that wouldn't look out of place off the course.
You too can dress like Rafa by popping into the shop and taking a look at the full FootJoy collection in-store. |
