Welcome to this week's newsletter. A dry and mild forecast is in store this week and who knows, maybe the odd bit of sunshine. Plenty of good golf is continuing to be played across the whole of the club. We have a weekend Stableford and the Mixed Winter League this weekend so if you are looking for a game please book a tee time.
Enjoy this week's read. |
Pairs Waltz Saturday, 9 February presented high winds to the golfers of CMGC for the Pairs Waltz competition. One score was to count on the odd holes and both scores were to count on the even holes meaning level par would be 54 points. Take advantage of the holes when the wind was helping and battle through on the holes when wind was against was the challenge in store for everyone competing. |
Grant Carbines and Graham Perks returned 52 points, which looked like it would hold top spot throughout the day, but they were to miss out on countback by finishing behind Dean Carpenter and Greg Shorter and then the last group in Rich Smith and Mark Mansell. Rich and Mark had a fantastic back nine shooting 28 points to take top spot, although Rich did suggest he thought they may have blown it after dropping a shot on the 17th but they held it together with two nett pars on the 18th to clinch top spot.

Patshull Park Winter Series
Tom and Josh along with 10 members headed over to Patshull Park on Thursday, 7 March for the latest Winter Series outing. After a coffee and bacon sandwich the teams were drawn with Tom teaming up with Geoff King, Ken Lewis and Maurice Clarke. Josh partnered Martin Bedwell, Simon Johnson and Dave Moore whilst Andy Johnson captained Mark Greenfield, Roger Bartlett and Clive Jordon.
The format was a Texas AM with the best two stableford scores to count on each hole and we also ran a separate Yellow Ball competition whereby the yellow ball was rotated between the players and their stableford score from each hole would be taken, therefore 36 points would be level par.
Tom’s team led the way and after a bit of a shaky start were cruising round the front nine with the highlight coming on the 9th with Maurice and Geoff making birdies. Josh and his team got off to a flyer with eight points on the second hole and kept the yellow ball score ticking over nicely with consistent two points.
|
Andy’s team also played the front nine well and continued the good form in to the back nine and once we were back in the clubhouse everyone was suggesting they had a good score.
After the meal we got down to the prizegiving with Mark Greenfield and Simon Johnson picking up nearest the pin prizes before the Yellow Ball scores were announced.
Andy’s team finished with 34 points, Tom’s team 35 but taking top spot was Josh’s team with 36 points. |
|
On to the Texas AM results, Tom couldn’t believe his team finished bottom with 85 points, five behind second place which was Andy’s team but taking top spot and making it a clean sweep was Josh, Martin, Dave and Simon with a fantastic 91 points.
Thanks to everyone who played and made it yet again an enjoyable day with plenty of laughs. We head over to Oxley Park in March for our next outing.

Best looking irons ever? Wow. These irons are beautiful. Titleist irons always perform exceptionally well, both for the better player in the AP2 model as well as the AP3 iron for game-improvers. From 1st March 2019, there will be an extremely limited number of each set available in this gorgeous all-black finish. We know that it won't be for everyone's taste, but if you like the look of them as much as we do and want something that no-one else has, be sure to click on the button below and leave us a message.
