Here we go again, week two of January, if like myself you’re doing dry January how is it going? I for one feel worse for it, maybe it’s the extra caffeine and coffee I am drinking. As always, we have plenty to report throughout the club, a lot of planning is going on at the club ready for the season.
You may have noticed a lot of work going on internally, I won’t let the cat out the bag just yet but more is happening this Friday. The main focus for this week is the entrance and upstairs, look out for pictures and further details this week. MS Shopfronts are the company doing the work which is owned by CMGC member Mark., if you’re in need of garage doors, internal or external door or even bi-fold doors Mark is the main to talk to, you can see the quality of his work at the club. Drop him an email on sales@mgshopfronts.com if you have any questions etc.
Enjoy this week's read. |
Wildlife friendly
This week the lads have been sorting out the wood piles out on the course, stacking them neatly and out of the way. These are brilliant for the local wild life especially hedgehogs. Before the weekend the bunkers will be raked, greens cut and tee markers positioned ready for a busy few days. If you’re looking for a game members, it’s a competition and visitors we have plenty of times online.

Getting the munchies yet?
The amount of food around CMGC tempting us is fantastic to see from Claire and Sally. Last week’s and this week's highlights have so far included homemade scones, roast pork sandwiches with roasties and of course cake. If you’re at the club over the next few days check out the specials board and enjoy some more delights.

Prostate Charity work
As many of you will know former Club Captain John Gaskell and his wife Ange have been raising money under the banner of The Rainbow Cancer Care for over 10 years. During this time they and their loyal supporters have donated many thousands of pounds to these wonderful local charities including Macmillan Nurses, Kidderminster Prostate support Group, Acorns Children’s hospice and Midland Air Ambulance.
|
2018 was a very special year with their fundraising totalling over £18,000 through events such as the Rainbow Golf Day, Night Golf and a Ryder Cup style match against our great friends at Brampton Golf club near Hereford.
Our picture shows Rev Paul Brothwell and John Poole receiving a cheque for £4,000 for the Kidderminster Prostate Support Group.
We are very proud to be associated with these events organised by two of the nicest and kind-hearted people anyone could wish to meet. Unfortunately Ange is not very well at the moment and I am sure everyone would like to join us in wishing her all the very best.

Milly and Christian abroad
Over the last week about a dozen or more members have said how’s Milly and is she safe? Because they have heard about the extreme weather in St Anton. We are very touched that people have asked how she is and can report she and Christian are both safe and well, although the situation has been very difficult in St Anton with over 2m snow in 48hrs and a high risk of avalanche, they are both very experienced now and know the mountain very and always carry the correct safety gear.
The current conditions are improving and they expect the skiing will be awesome over the next few weeks and into April. Thank you very much to everyone who has asked, here is a picture of them in action.

The two John's
With the weather so dry, the course playing its full length and the bunkers raked the weekend competition was made a qualifier. Over the weekend some fantastic scores were posted, John Westley has finally joined the single figures golfers ranks after been so close in 2018.
Steve Lau is fast approaching single figures after 39 points saw him take top spot in Division One. The score of the weekend though was by John Gallagher who shot an incredible 42 points to see his handicap cut by two.Interestingly, last weekends competition yielded 9 more birdies and 2 more eagles over the two days than the weekend before. |

Our first two competitions of 2019 have had 71 people playing in each, this is almost summer entry level. A big thank you to all who played. Same again this weekend, a decision will be made if it is a qualifier Friday afternoon after walking the course, chatting to the greenkeepers and looking at the forecast for the weekend. |
Handicap League
Ash Cook is taking the reigns for 2019 and is keen to get a committed squad together and have a good go at getting out of the group stage.
A signup sheet is in the changing rooms, anyone who is interested in playing please add you name. |

There’s no such thing as bad weather for golf – just a poor choice of clothing. You might have got away with the old ‘raincheck’ excuse a few years ago, but golf clothing has come a long way since then. All you need to do is make sure you’re properly layered up with golf-specific garments and you’re good to go. |
