Another weekend has passed by, the weather is still holding up great, and the course is in great condition with many compliments from both members and visitors. As December dawns on us this weekend, everybody must be feeling the Christmas spirit, remember on Saturday you can eat your first advent calendar chocolate or forget them like we usually do in the shop and end up eating five in one go.
Some great news to greet everyone is that both the Christmas Open on Friday, 7 December and the Christmas Party on Saturday, 8 December are now totally SOLD OUT, with 30 teams in the open and 90 attending the party. We can now let you in on a big secret for our next big night…the one and only Steve Bull will be hosting a dinner on Wednesday, 30 January 2019. Full details will be released next week; however, tickets will be just £25 per person including a three-course meal, famous comedian Aaron James along with Steve. Get it in the diary now and look out next week, we expect this to sell out quickly!
Enjoy this week’s read!

Rafa turns one
It’s so nice of you all to ask how he is doing, he is not quite walking yet but he is into everything, I am not sure where the time has gone but he turned one on Wednesday.
Many of you like to see what he is looking like so here he is on his birthday.
After the last five matches his old shirt had become unlucky so uncle Sam had to get him a new one ready for Cardiff on Friday.

Course update
As mentioned above we have had some fantastic comments on about the course, my personal favourite was that these are better greens than any course in Wolverhampton. The key to this is the constant aeration even just using a light spike this time of year makes such a difference.
Along with keeping on top of everything, the lads moved up to the top of Foxes run whilst it is dry. The plantation between the 5th and 6th has had a big cull to really open it up, this will give it so much more light and let the other trees thrive. Plus, it so much easer to get a mower between the trees. They have also managed to keep on top of the leaf collection with not many left out there now.

Weekend Stableford results
Was that the final qualifier of the season or do we still have some more to take advantage of? A lot of members this weekend, entered into the Weekend stableford to try and go up a shot for the winter, or to reach their goal of reducing their handicap down for the season.

Saturday saw some high scores in Division One with 39 points by Ross Moorcroft, 37 points by last week’s Division One winner Graham Fletcher and an amazing 41 points by Ken Lewis, as he said the best round at CMGC since he joined. Division Two’s top spot was taken by Jason Chance with 35 points, the question was would both Jason and Ken hold onto top spot by Sunday afternoon. Some steady scores in Division One trickled in with 36 points by Adam Cook and 37 points by Andy Johnson. Division Two also had some better scores entered with Richard Dutton shooting 36 points, knocking his playing partner Jason Chance off first place from Saturday. Mark Greenfield continuing to get his handicap cut with 38 points. However, Division One’s scores from Saturday could not be beaten with Ken Lewis and Ross Moorcroft taking first and second place. Mark and Rich picked up first and second place in Division Two to complete the final standings. Well played everyone! |
|
Dave added "I have given lessons to Mark, Richard and Ken recently and it is great to see then heading towards their goals. Ken is within touching distance of single figures, Mark has made it to a 15 handicap and this was only Richards second competition. Well played to all".

PXG Fitting - Huge gains for Dean
On Wednesday of last week, Matt who is the PXG Master Fitter for the UK headed over to CMGC to give a Dean Rogers a PXG experience and get him fitted into some new clubs. They battled through rain, wind and Snow (which wasn’t forecast) and still the difference the clubs made were outstanding. Dean’s current 7 iron was going on average 126 yards, when fitted with a PXG 7 iron this averaged 152 yards. This is some huge gains.
We are looking to have a PXG Fitting Day at Cleobury in early 2019, so if you are interested in getting fitted for some PXG clubs, let us know HERE and we will keep you informed.

When the chips are down...
|
As seasons change, so too does our beloved golf course. Winter leads to softer fairways and greens, meaning there's less roll out on your shots; as a result you may have noticed your chip-and-runs aren't giving you the tap-in putts that you're used to. Here's our advice: |
The key to fixing this is adjusting your landing zone. When the greens are softer, you need to make sure that - if you take the same club as normal - you land the ball closer to the pin as shown by the red circle, due to the fact that the ball simply won't roll out the same distance as it would in the summer (as shown by the blue circle). |
Alternatively, you could take a less lofted club and keep the landing zone the same - the lower loft will ensure the ball has more roll out on the green. These tips will have you making more up-and-downs during the winter, ensuring your handicap continues to drop along with the temperature! |
