Another week, another CMGC Newsletter. As I write this week’s newsletter, I am jumping between lessons, cups of tea to warm up, and running the Pro Shop. No matter how cold it gets the number one bonus so far is that it is still dry and we can enjoy our golf, minus losing the odd couple of golf balls under leaves. The greenkeepers are working tirelessly to make sure as many are collected as possible, but as soon as they are gone, they are back once again causing havoc across CMGC.
Grab your cup of tea and enjoy this week’s read.

November Stableford and Winter Order of Merit
As we edge closer to December, it was another weekend that passed with a qualifier being hosted. Another 45 players made the most of this opportunity to try and reduce their handicaps before the weather maybe turns. It’s great to see so many people taking advantage of the weather and the dryness of the course.

Ian Juckes was one of the first to head out and got off to a flying start around Foxes shooting 21 points, followed by a consistent back nine of 18 points, giving him the initial lead in Division One. However, with a stronger back nine and finding form since the Bewdley Cup was Karl Tyers who has struggled this season but shot 39 points winning Division One on countback and seeing his handicap cut to 12 once again.
Division Two also had some very impressive and consistent scoring, James Whitehouse secured a steady 37 points, with Mark Watson played level to his handicap with 36 points. However, Division Two’s top spot would remain with Graham Fletcher who dominated Division Two taking a three-shot lead early on with 40 points.
A special mention to Andy Thomas who hit the best shot in his golfing career to get a two on the 4th of Foxes.

Sam Johnson - Meeting, lunch and coaching
By now you will all know Sam Johnson who sponsored the Champion of Champions tournament. Sam is running a retire with confidence meeting at CMGC, below is a description.
"The run up to retirement typically presents my clients with a host of decisions to make, many of these decisions such as how they are going to spend their new found spare time or where they are going to go on holiday first are unsurprisingly, not seen as too much of a hardship. However, some decisions that need to be made are not looked upon with the same enthusiasm.
One area that can present some challenging decisions is achieving an enduring and sufficient income in retirement, managing how and when to use various sources of retirement income can be complex. An increasing number of people are trying to tackle this alone and are defaulting to the easiest option which is not often the best option for their long term financial security.
To read my brief article on this area click here.
I will be running a complimentary How to Retire with Confidence morning at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club on Wednesday, 5 December 2018. During the morning I will introduce some of the key strategies I use with my clients to give them the confidence to enjoy this period of their life. The event is free with the following itinerary:
10:00am - Registration with coffee 10.30am - Retirement the big questions 11.45am - Retirement, making it happen 12.45pm - Questions and answers 1:00pm - Lunch followed by a Short Game Clinic with Dave
If you would like some free information, free lunch and coaching please contact us HERE to sign up. Sign up sheets will also be in the changing rooms at the club.

Winter Series
Our second Winter Series took us to one of our favourite courses Burghill Valley. Amt drew the short straw and was working leaving myself (Dave), Tom and Josh to take the teams over, conditions were lovely and after a bacon sandwich the draw was done. The format was best score on the first, two on the second, three on the third and four on the fourth and so on throughout the 18 holes.
|
On paper the teams were evenly matched and after nine holes my team was on 45 points, Josh’s 40 and Tom’s 43.
Tom’s team had a meltdown on 13, 14, 15 and 16 to finish with 33 on the back nine and 76 overall. Josh’s team fought back with 46 on the back nine, however my team matched that with 46 to give us the overall win. Clive, Simon and Lewis played some super golf and I just came in when I needed to.
Next up is Cleeve Hill on Monday, 3 December, we need four more players. If you would like to play please contact us HERE.

You might notice the ground getting softer during the winter months, which can lead to a real scorecard-killer if you're not careful - the dreaded 'fat' shot. If this is you, follow these simple tips to get yourself back on track. |
The best way to combat the 'fats' is to concentrate on hitting the ball first, followed by the turf. But rather than consciously trying to change parts of your swing, imagine the ball being a ball-width further forward in your stance and try to hit the back of this imaginary ball when you swing. If you struggle with this or have any other score-wrecking issues, come and see us for a lesson or two this winter so that you're back on form when the season starts next spring. |
