As a write this week’s newsletter and look out onto the course, I think it’s only right to say rain, rain go away. Is it fair to say winter is here? Trees becoming bare as their gorgeous Autumn leaves are falling. However, CMGC is as always prepared for the winter to come, both in the shop with winter products to get you warm and dry, a winter menu on its way in the bar and the greenkeepers’ are getting the course winter ready.
Enjoy this week's read! |
New bunker face
Our Winter bunker renovation has moved into riveting faces. First up is the 8th of Deer Park, this steep faced bunker gobbles up balls that miss the green on the right hand side. |
First up is to take out the existing face, this is done with a backhoe and graded so the new face slopes. |
Fresh turf is cut which is then placed around the bunker face, the turf is laid on top of each other with a gap of around 40mm from the previous piece to create a gentle slope, this also stops it collapsing if it’s too steep.. |
Please note this bunker will be out of play until Monday, 1 April for it to fully settle down and let the face grow. |
Are you ready to party?

Yellowball results
The first Yellowball competition of the Winter 2018 took place on Saturday. Considering it was a windy day, we had some great scores from teams that managed to keep the yellowball the entire way. The yellow ball is passed amongst the players in the team and whoever has the ball the amount of points they score class as double. If, however the yellow ball is lost, it’s gone and you will only record the score as normal.
We had a three ball out in contention, made up of the team off, Alan C Walker, Dave Punsheon and Ralph Punsheon who scored a great 115 points taking third place and missing out on countback. The team of Andy Thomas, Graham Fletcher, Dean Rogers and Paul Jones also scored 115 points but has a better back nine to take second place.
Yet, with six points clear of the rest of the field, and with Caddy Bob Lucas walking around with them, the team of Jez Duffield, Glen Tramaseur, John Westley and Andy Roberts scored an fabulous 121 points, winning the Yellowball competition.

Christmas Open
This is our last open of the year and gets everyone set for the festive period with Christmas jumpers, Santa suits and much more worn by players. Entry is £15 to visitors and £10 to members which includes entry, coffee and mince pie after nine holes and of course the famous sausage and mash after play.
Tee times are very limited as we operate a two tee start to get everyone around nice and quick due to potential day light issues. The times we have left are: - 9.10, 9.18, 9.26, 9.34, 9.42, 9.50, 10.54, and 11.02.
If you would like to enter a team please contact us here.

Winter Pairs Knockout

FootJoy Winter Pairs After so much demand with the sudden drop in temperature, we now have men’s and ladies Wintersof gloves by FootJoy as well as a few selected sizes in rain gloves for men. The main benefit of these gloves and why they are so popular is due to the fact that are in pairs, keeping both hands dry and warm but also having a warm waterproof fleece design.
A new feature design on the Wintersof gloves is that a warm insulated cuff has been added to keep the cold air out and the warm air in. We have all sizes from small to XL in the Pro Shop |
