Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter.
I thought coming towards the end of October things slow down, no sign of that here at CMGC it’s full steam ahead. The fact the weather is so good, the course is great and we have buggys on the course has meant it has been no stop. As mentioned we have Night Golf (on Friday) and the Captains Drive In (on Sunday) to keep us on our toes. Once again we have plenty to talk about. However, I’m just going to leave this picture here to tempt you all over for a game. Enjoy this week’s read!

Digging away
When you have the Bob Price and Sons team onsite you may as well make the most of it! Here they are clearing out the pond on the 4th of Badgers Sett. They are currently looking for some clay to try and line it with. Either way it looks so much bigger! Click the picture to check out the video.

Competition feedback
After last week’s email asking for winter golf feedback we will be running more nine-hole competitions which may lead to more qualifying competitions in the winter months. This worked well Saturday with a few members who were short on time still entering the competition and playing just nine holes whilst other members still played 18 holes but with just nine holes counting in the competition. Hopefully this will encourage more play and more entries in to competitions over the winter. Even in tough conditions everyone can cope for nine holes and its important to get out of the house, keep the swing going and get some fresh air over the winter months.
Josh will also be running a Winter Pairs Knockout, it is £5 per pair to enter with all monies being paid out to the winners and runners up. The draw will be made on Monday, 19 November, matches are to be arranged by the players and will be limited to just 16 pairs. To enter please visit the golf shop. |

Triple Dutch 2018
The Triple Dutch returned for part two of the trilogy and what a day it was. Fantastic weather was once again on show for this event to remember the great Henk. It was fantastic to see the amount of orange on show for our Dutch friends. Players enjoyed breakfast, 18 holes, canapés, prizes, a meal, half way bar and much more. A minimum donation of £5 per player was paid for the junior fund which raised a fantastic £660. The scoring was very close but Scott Severn guided his team to a narrow win on countback with an impressive 29 gross on the back nine in the Texas Scramble format. A video of the presentation can be viewed HERE.

A big thank you to the Triple Dutch (you know who you are) for hosting the event and to everyone at CMGC for making the day so much fun. Everyone is already looking forward to this day in 2019. |
Junior Club Championships
The CMGC juniors played their Club Championships on Saturday. Jack Severn who is off scratch shot a very impressive four under gross to finish on 40 points and take the Gross trophy.
Jack however couldn’t do the double as Liam Boawater came in with 43 points to take the Nett prize.
Liam has been having lessons with Amy and she had this to say. "I am very proud of Liam at the start of the year he was off a handicap off 50 but has now been cut to 28, that is a massive 22 shot reduction in 10 months. Liam has lessons every week and his swing is really starting to come together. He is certainly a talent to look out for".
Do you have a junior golfer in your family and want them to start playing golf like Liam has? Email Amy on amymillwardgolf@gmail.com.
Both Liam and Jack will be on site to collect their trophies on Sunday.

Drainage baskets going in bunkers
The number one priority for Ant and Shaun this winter is bunkers, the ones we have taken out are now starting to show excellent grass coverage.
|
You may have noticed that many have been re-edged and the overall shape massively improving, now the priority is to improve the drainage not only to get rid of the water quickly but also stop is soaking the sand.
The process:
- Where the water is holding dig out the area to where the drain is - Wrap the box in terram and connect to the drain - Bury the box
When it rains the water will basically filter into this box as opposed to sitting on the surface, then overtime it will filter away into the drain it's connected to, it almost acts as a water storage unit!
Shaun had massive success with this at his previous club, fingers crossed it will be the same here.
|
|
The first two bunkers to test the new drains are the 8th of Deer Park and 4th of Badgers. After this we are going to test making the edge of the bunker more compact to allow the bunker to roll back into the middle of it. Once they have gone through the testing of the winter, additional sand will be added. |
