Bewdley Cup. Over Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd September Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club hosted the Bewdley Cup for the first time in a match against Little Lakes and Bewdley Pines. Each day consisted of 20 players a side with a Better Ball Stableford on the Saturday and Individual Stableford on the Sunday. All scores were to count so the pressure was certainly on. After day one, Little Lakes were ahead of Cleobury by 18 points which meant that the team would need to play some excellent golf on Sunday to try and narrow the gap. A two-tee start on Sunday meant the scores were coming in thick and fast with the gap shortening all the time. Fantastic scores from Garry Hawes, Paul Liggins and Dave Gordon as well as consistent scores from the rest of the team meant we were in for a tense finish. Karl Tyers was the last player in and a good score from Karl could potentially see Cleobury take spot. Karl didn’t disappoint and produced an incredible 39 points. After checking the cards, double checking the cards and even triple checking the cards Cleobury had come out on top by 3 points.
A big thank you to Captain Jamie Fearnley for all his hard working in organising this event and to the team for producing such a thrilling fight back. Well played all. |
