President’s Day 2018 It was a great turnout for the Club President Tom Straughton as 80 ladies and gents played for the 27, 18 and 9 holes trophies. 30 of the 80 played for the 27 hole trophy and the order of the day was Deer Park, Badgers Sett and then Foxes Run. The 18 hole trophy was played for over Badgers and Foxes, and the 9 hole trophy was played for over Foxes. Nigel Broomfield, Rhys Short and Graham Fletcher all shot a Nett 32 for the 9 hole competition around Foxes run. Louie Edwards did one better with a Nett 31, but couldn’t quite beat the Nett 30 that was scored by Martin Cleaver. Martin Played 27 holes so kept it very steady to score that well on his final 9! Martin Cleaver, Lewis Hodges, Phil Lau and Charlie Edwards all shot a Nett 67 around Badgers and Foxes in the 18 hole competition, which on any other day could have been enough to win! Paul Judge snuck 1 ahead of these boys with a Nett 66, but that could only get him 2nd place. A brilliant Nett 63 was scored by Rich Smith to take the 18 hole trophy and finish 3 shots clear of Paul. It’s an unusual format to play 27 holes in a competition in one day! Martin Cleaver, Charlie Edwards and Scott Severn held it together very well to all finish with a Nett 102 (105 is the par over 27 holes). Lewis Hodges was not fazed by playing 27 holes and scored a Nett 101 to finish in 3rd place. Rhys Short was able to go one better and shot a Nett 100 to take 2nd place. The day however belonged to Louie Edwards, who was the only player to go into double digits over 27 holes with a brilliant Nett 99. Louie now sees his handicap go down to 9! Welcome to single figures Louie! The ladies had an 18 hole competition that was also around Badgers and Foxes. Sian Hawes and Sharon Liggins both finished with a Nett 77. However, this was 2 shots behind Larraine Watson who came in with a Nett 75! Thanks to everyone who entered and supported the Club President! Nearest the Pins were won by Rob Winnall (6th Badgers Sett) and Alan Walker (8th Foxes Run).
