Another week of fantastic weather, the course holding up well and plenty of good golf being played. The pond on the 9th on Foxes has dropped low which has given the team a chance tidy up some of the trees that have set and started to grow in the lake. This should make it look a lot nicer from the tee and should you go slightly down the right you'll be able to see what distance you need to carry it to stay dry.

Winner: Brooks Keopka 20/1 Brooks just like me is an athlete who hits it miles! I can see the Bellerive Golf Course really suiting his length. He finished well last week at Firestone with a closing 3 under and 5th overall, I can see him going all the way this week. Top 20 finish: Ross Fisher – 8/1 Ross Fisher is ranked 48th in the world. He has played in all the big tournaments this year he hits the ball very high and long which suits the US PGA set up. I think a top 20 finish at 8/1 is fantastic value.

Winner – Justin Thomas 14/1 A man on fine form and the defending champion. He will be looking for his 2nd win in two weeks and if there is anyone who can do that, it’s JT! He is third favourite to win the US PGA, behind Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy, and ahead of Brooks Koepka. Outsider – Jimmy Walker 160/1 Even though he is one of the biggest names in golf, Jimmy hasn’t been finishing well in tournaments the past couple of months. The last time he came in the top 10 of a competition was in May 2018! He won the US PGA in 2016 however, so he knows how to win a Major! |

Jason Day 20/1 Winner back in 2015. Jason Day is too talented not to win another Major, a good showing last week in the WGC before a few late drop shots. Long off the tee and once he gets on the greens, he’s as good as anyone. Tony Finau 35/1 Finished top 10 in The Masters, US Open and The Open this year so he has the game to compete with the very best. A fans favourite and a guy who seems to give a lot back to the game of golf so hopefully he can go well this week.

Winner – Rory Mcllroy 12/1 With a T2 finish at The Open and some awesome ball striking in all competitions, he has another Major firmly set in his sights. He has already won the US PGA Championship twice in his career, so it may be time for a third. Each Way – Tommy Fleetwood 25/1 After a 2nd place finish in the US Open and a T12 finish at The Open. Tommy has been shooting some fantastic scores recently. He looks like he isn’t far away to grasp a Major!

Prostate Cancer Support Group Charity Golf Day. On Friday 3rd August some strong teams came together to compete in the Prostate Cancer Support Group Charity Golf Day here at CMGC. Once again the weather was extremely warm with the ball travelling distances some players had never seen before. With the best two stableford scores to count on each hole, most scores were bunched in the mid-eighties with Ian Dorrell’s team taking 3rd spot with 87 points. Mark Watson, Laraine Watson, Matt Watson and John Gaskell returned with a fantastic 92 points, but were knocked in to second place on count back. Taking top spot and the trophy was the victorious Mark Greenfield, Clive Jordan, John Addison Snr and John Addison. Well played! Some great golf was obviously played whilst also raising some valuable funds for the Kidderminster and Worcestershire Prostate Cancer Support Group. A big thank you to Ange Gaskell for all her hard work with the raffle and half way house and to John Gaskell and Paul Brothwell for their work in making the day a success. The day raised over £800 which is a lovely start and I’m sure we can easily get past the £1000 barrier in 2019.

Rabbits Cup Results. Another weekend, another trophy competition! 49 gents played on Saturday in the boiling sun, competing for the Rabbits Cup. With the course still in fine condition and the fairways running fast, low scores were certainly predicted. David Mendham nipped it one better than Adrian Nash and Paul Liggins and scored a nett 68 to finish in second spot in Division 2. Nick Kimberlee also shot a nett 68 but just pipped David on count back. Nick has been having some lessons with Dave and it is great to see him getting the rewards for this hard work. It was also close for second place in Division 1. John Swithenby shot a nett 69 to go one better than Bryan Colley, Jack Severn and John Westley who all finished with a nett 70. The day however belonged to early bird George Blakeway. George shot an incredible nett 64 to finish 4 shots ahead of Nick’s nett 68 to win the Rabbits Trophy! George now sees his handicap cut to 9… Welcome to single figures George! Division 1 1st – George Blakeway (Trophy Winner) 2nd – John Swithenby Division 2 1st - Nick Kimberlee 2nd – David Mendham Nearest The Pin – Paul Liggins

PuttOut - £20 and just 5 left! There is nothing worse than leaving a putt short that was online! The PuttOut training aid is a fantastic piece of kit that you can use at home or on the greens. Basically the ramp is shaped so each putt is returned to the player the same distance it would of gone past the hole had it missed, anything else is a miss! Only putts of perfect weight will hold on the micro-target. This thing is so addictive and a great putting aid. For £20 it’s a no brainer for home use on the carpet like me!

When tour pros are playing in big events, like the PGA Championship this week, they’ll always have relatively new wedges in their bag to maximise their spin, because worn wedges mean less control.
|
| Why do grooves matter? The grooves are the sole contact point between your ball and the club, imparting backspin to help lift the ball into the air. How does decay affect you? All grooves will decay slowly over time, however manufacturers have worked hard to ensure today's wedges are durable and last longer than ever before. Vokey recommend changing your wedges ever 60-70 rounds, or more often if you play out of bunkers. |
| Need to upgrade? If yours are looking worn like on the first image above, why not consider the Titleist Vokey SM7 wedge (above), which has Spin Milled grooves. This design sees sharp, consistent groove edges combined with a rough Parallel Face Texture to create maximum spin control in all scenarios. A heat treatment is also applied to all SM7 wedges to enhance groove durability through the life of the wedge, helping them to stay in the bag for longer. |
