The Bionic Man Strikes! The Saturday Stableford was met with some tough conditions for the players with strong winds swirling. This was reflected by the scoring with Gordon Moriaty winning division one with 36 points on count back after a fantastic 20 points on the back nine. In division 2 it was nice to see Paul Harrison under his handicap with 37 points. Paul came to me Friday for a lesson on irons and hybrids looking to improve his ball striking. It is certainly working with his first under par round in 8 competitions. The day however belong to Jez Duffield who shot an incredible 44 points! For those who don’t know Jez has been struggling with his golf because of his hip. The consultants said he was too young to have it done, so has been struggling along the last 4 years. Thankfully over the winter he had it done and is now getting his golf back to where it once was! I asked Jez for a few words as we have worked on his bunker play and wedges and he emailed me this!
Dave “Hi Jez - Just logged on to the computer and seen that score in that wind! Hope the chipping went well!! Can you send me a quote or picture for the newsletter?” Jez “Hi Dave - It’s nice to play pain free. I struck the ball solidly the whole round, especially my driver, my chipping has improved since my lesson. I did get up and down out of the bunker (5 on foxes) using just my putter but used my sand wedge out of bunker 6 foxes and hit it to 2 foot from the pin. Unfortunately, no photos as only polaroid cameras were around the last time I won.”
Well done Jez! |
