Hello one and all, yet another week of sun passes us by; this weather is so good and it is great to see so many people out playing golf and enjoying it. The way The Open Championship unfolded was compulsive viewing with Tiger leading one minute to Molinari sneaking up and clinching the Claret Jug in fine style.

SuperStroke Mistake
After ordering the correct selection of putter grips I then made an error and ordered a set of the SuperStroke iron and wood grips as used by Sergio Garcia. If you want to take these off our hands we will fit the whole set of 13 for just £65. A set of these would normally cost £96. Click here if you want to reserve them and we can arrange a time for you to come in and drop off your clubs. |

Ladies Club Championship
The 2018 Ladies Club Championships took place on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th July. The members would play 18 Holes on both days which was a change from the usual 27 holes in one day.
Gross Trophy
In the gross competition Jennie Dorrell was in pole position followed closely by Wendy Duncan and Nina Foord. Unfortunately Jennie was unable to make the following day so it was left to Wendy and Nina to battle it out for the trophy. After 7 holes on the second day there was not much between the pair but then Nina took control playing steadily over the next 11 holes to take the top spot and the trophy.
Nett Trophy
In the nett competition several players were in contention going into day two with good performances from Pam Wright, Janet Plunkett, Deborah Fearnley, Beryl Eastwood, Wendy Duncan and Jennie Dorrell. With a host of players in with a chance to take the trophy, it was anybody’s guess as to who would come out on top as the ladies tee’d off on the Thursday. Jane Franks posted a good second day score to once again see her handicap cut however it was Judy Sant who burst through the field to take top spot.
Judy shot a fantastic net 66, which was enough to seal top spot and take home the trophy. Well-played ladies.

July Texas Am The July Texas AM saw a record turn out of 29 teams. With a nice mix of member and visitor teams. Conditions on the day were glorious with sunshine and high temperatures for all. The greenkeepers came in at 5am to make sure the course was in prime condition for such a big field of players. The mixed prize was very close with three teams on 93 points. However the Pringles and Hawes just pipped top spot. It was also a close affair in the non mixed with 104, 105 and 106 taking the prizes. John Gittins who is the form man within the club at the moment along with Greg, Dave and Mark managed to take top spot on countback. We hope everyone enjoyed the day and thank you once again for the continued support in these opens. Pictured are the winners. |

An Italian job well done Well that was intense, wasn’t it? The 147th Open Championship at Carnoustie saw Francesco Molinari become the first Italian to ever win a Major, after seeing off challenges from the likes of Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Tiger Woods. What was particularly impressive about Molinari’s victory was his mental strength – being in the same pair as Woods in the final round naturally invites huge galleries, but the Italian refused to buckle under the added pressure. 13 pars over the first 13 holes in very tricky conditions laid the platform for a final round of 69 – by no means the lowest round of the week, but on a day where players such as Jordan Spieth were struggling, it was very much a case of slow and steady winning the race. |
There was nothing too spectacular about Molinari’s round, bar his excellent birdie on the 18th, but his putting was exemplary. One highlight was his two-putt from 90 feet on the 12th – a masterclass in lag putting and a moment which meant he kept his momentum going. Molinari’s first Major victory sees him climb to 6th in the world rankings, whilst Tiger’s best 72-hole total at a major since the 2012 Open was enough for him to once again enter the top 50. It was thrilling to have Woods competing again on a Sunday – it may now be a case of ‘when’ as opposed to ‘if’ he adds to his haul of 14 Major trophies. |

Are you the type of golfer who considers the danger ahead of you and plans accordingly, or do you pull a driver from the bag on every par-4 and par-5 without a blink? If you’re the latter then you need to read on. |
Consider the danger You hear pros talk a lot about the ‘smart shot’ in their post-round interviews. If you’re on the tee and there’s a bunker, ditch or other hazard around the distance that your driver or fairway wood normally flies, then make sure you change club to one that takes the trouble out of play, as displayed in this graphic. While you’ll have a slightly longer shot to the green, you’ll greatly reduce the chance of a big number. | |
|
Know your numbers Of course, key to all of this is knowing how far each of your woods carries. If you’re looking to add more distance and control to your game, come and test the Titleist 917 driver, 917 fairway and 818 hybrid. If you have a fitting we can hit all three in a range of different specifications until we find your ideal set-up for the course. |
