As well as a busy Saturday we have lots of matches this week with the Ladies, Seniors, Scratch and Handicap league team all in action this week, good luck to all playing. We welcomed Luke, Cameron, Pete, Keith, Jan, James, Leslie and Paul to the club over the last couple of weeks, hopefully you all get plenty of golf in and settle well in to life at CMGC. Air2G2 On Wednesday and Thursday last week we once again had the impressive Air2G2 machine on site.
The Air2G2 uses three probes to inject pressurized air at 6 inches and 12 inches beneath the surface of the soil, fracturing the compacted layers that form as a result of foot traffic, routine maintenance, and natural processes. These lateral air injections loosen up compacted soil immediately, without any disruption to the surface of the turf. |
The increased porosity of the soil enables the roots to grow deeper, reaching the latent nutrients. The increased positive microbial activity in the soil also alleviates bacteria and fungus in the root zone. Increased root depth and health enhances heat and drought stress tolerance. This fracturing relieves compaction, quickly allows water to drain, and promotes immediate gas exchange. But most importantly, it does so with little to no disturbance to the turf grass surface. With the warm weather continuing the irrigation system is starting at 5.30pm each evening. Each green is irrigated for 20 minutes as well as the tees meaning the system is running for 12 hours.

Code Breakers. The Story Of Enigma. Friday 13th July. 7pm for 7.30pm. Mark Baldwin, known as ‘Doctor Enigma’ will be at CMGC on Friday 13th July speaking about Britain’s WW2 codebreakers, and their work at Bletchley Park. This is a great opportunity to hear the unfolding story of this great British achievement without having to travel too far, and you’ll have a chance to operate a real Second World War Enigma machine. Tickets are just £7.00 and are available from the Golf Club.

Summer Series The latest round of the Summer Series was played at Puckrup Hall Golf Club last week. The weather was glorious and the course was in great condition. We enjoyed a quick bacon roll on arrival and the draw was done of who was playing with who. Dave’s Team consisted of Andy Johnson, Ash Cook and Bob Barlow; Amy’s Team was Geoff King, Dave Balmer and Lewis Hodges and Tom’s Team was Simon Johnson, Alan Hall and Ian Dorrell. We decided to play a Tex Am Format as well as a Yellow Ball competition.
It’s fair to say all teams played some great golf! In the Texas Am event, Dave’s Team were charging on the front 9 with 50 points, Amy’s Team weren’t far behind on 47, whilst Tom’s team had 46 points. In the Yellow Ball event, Dave’s team lost their yellow ball after only 4 holes, yet Amy’s and Tom’s Team kept it for the entire round and despite not scoring on the 18th hole Amy’s Team won the Yellow Ball competition with 39 points, 2 clear of Tom’s Team. In the Texas Am, Dave’s Team started to falter on the back 9, with everyone having to get at least four drives in they found themselves in a few difficult spots towards the end and finished with 87 points. Tom’s team had no such worries finishing with 88 points, but couldn’t get anywhere near the 93 points posted by Amy and her team. Amy’s Team of Geoff, Dave and Lewis did the double with good golf and plenty of laughter. Amy is in great form at the moment and hopefully this can continue with more competitions on the horizon. Next up is Ross on Wye.

Men’s Weekend Stableford After a very busy Captain’s Weekend, everything resumed back to normal with a last-minute Weekend Stableford for the members. With several players playing knockout matches over the weekend and with England playing at 1pm on the Sunday, the field was slightly smaller than normal. Stu Humphries was delighted when he found out that he beat Adam Winnall on count back with 38 points, which saw him lead Division 1 for the whole of Saturday. However, no one could have predicted that 45 points would come in on the Sunday, but it did! Greg Shorter had arguably the round of his life, playing off 11 Greg shot an incredible 2 over gross to finish on 45 points, he was level gross after 17 holes!

Greg has always been a rapidly improving player and sees his handicap drop to single figures. 1st and 2nd place players in Division 2 were both from the Saturday. Glen Tramaseur played some tidy golf in the morning and finished with a solid 39 points to finish 2nd. But it was Roger Evans who claimed top spot in Division 2 with 41 points. Roger was almost certain that regardless of what he scored on the day, someone would have beaten it on the Sunday, but this time that was not the case! |

Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation Golf Day
Friday 6th July 2018.
R.C.C.F raise funds for five organisations which include Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Nurses, Acorns, Prostate Cancer and Midland Air Ambulance.
The day is run by Jon and Angela Gaskell a long with their good friends who host a fun packed day.
Get your teams in! 150 are already playing and as it is the 10th year Jon and Ange Gaskell are hoping to get a record number of 180 golfers! R.C.C.F raise funds for five organisations which include Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Nurses, Acorns, Prostate Cancer and Midland Air Ambulance. Entry is just £35pp in teams of four. The Day Includes - Coffee & Bacon Roll on Arrival.
