Hello once again to everyone, if you're reading this than thank you for staying on after the GDPR updates! After 3 weeks of dry weather the rain didn’t half come down, thankfully it was more of a constant mid-level wet rain fall as opposed to a storm that just washes everything away. This has made everything nice and green once again allowing for some lovely lush lies. We pride ourselves on our communication and we love a morning course update video at CMGC. Keep an eye on our website, blog, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages for the most up to date posts. |

Friday = Pro-Am Day If you're playing Friday please make sure you have called to book a tee time. We are once again hosting The Worcestershire Open Pro-Am. It has kindly being sponsored by member Andy Smith of Kidderminster Self Storage who is putting up £1000 straight into the professional's prize pot. This makes it the stand out event in the county and we are delighted to host once again. |
In the build up to this the greens will be cut and double rolled. As it stands 27 teams are playing on Badgers Sett from 9:00am – 1:40pm.

Triple Decker Sandwich £5.95 Can you take on the new Triple Decker sandwich? 3 pieces of toast packed with bacon, mushrooms, sausage, black pudding, an egg and two hash browns on the side. - Dave – got three quarters through it.
- Tom – came unstuck with the black pudding.
- Amy – didn’t even come close.
- Josh – managed nearly all of it, but the bread beat him.
Pop into the bar to take this on and let us know if you complete it!

The Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation, Our Story So Far In May 2009, I lost my mum after an 18-year battle with cancer. At the same time, my husband John, was 60. We had arranged a golf day at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club with about 40 family and friends. It was a tough decision to go ahead with the golf day and 60th celebrations as it was only two weeks after my mum’s death, but we talked about it and said mum would not want us to cancel but decided to do a small raffle for Cancer Research UK in her memory. We had a great day, sad at times, but we managed to raise around £500, which was amazing. So our story began… Everyone had such a great time they asked us to make it annual event, which we have each year since. Until 2013 we raised funds solely for Cancer Research UK, but we sat down and discussed how we wanted the money to be spent and decided to set up our own foundation so that we could give various charities a donation each year. We now donate, on a regular basis, to: Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Nurses, Prostate Cancer Group, Acorns Children’s Hospice and Midland Air Ambulance. Our golf day has progressed over the years, this year is our 10th annual golf day, we are going to have an amazing day and together with the golf we raise funds by a putting competition, beat the golf pro, coffee, cakes, company sponsored holes, plus a raffle and auction. Our auction goes very well and we have been supported by the top golf personalities, football clubs, motorcycle racing personalities.
We also have organised Night Golf at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club, which is great fun, and very popular. |
To date, we have raised in excess of £60,000 and we are looking to increase that amount this year and our first golf day of the year, is on 6th July 2018 at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club. If anyone out there would like to sponsor a hole, £40, or donate a raffle prize, or even join us on the day, please contact the Pro Shop at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club, who will take the details for us, or email angela.gaskell@yahoo.com.
Try and join us, it’s a lot of fun and raises lots of money for many people to make their lives a little more enjoyable. Ange and John Gaskell. The Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation main sponsors on the day: - Thermotech Ltd
- Motorline Toyota - Stourbridge
- Rygor Mercedes - Worcester
- Streetbike - Halesowen
- Double 22 Racing
- Motorcycle Mart - Kidderminster
- Plus the - Midland Air Ambulance Pod
Side note: John and Ange are amazing people and do so much for CMGC. Over 120 people are already playing. I would encourage all members to try and get a team and support them and the charities.

More Paths Added More paths on the course have been added, we assessed the wet and high-traffic areas over the winter and have added new ones on the fifth of Deer Park by the tee and the 8th of Badgers Sett by the green. The hardcore has been added, once this has settled the top layer of stone will go on. This will make access areas a lot easier and more comfortable going forwards. |
Captains’ Weekend We are now less than one month away from this year’s Captains’ Weekend and planning is well underway. As usual there is a packed weekend in store with something for everyone. The main aims for the weekend is for everyone to have fun and to raise as much money as possible for the Midlands Air Ambulance Service. Your competition entry money will go towards prize money with ALL money left over going to the Ambulance Service. There will be a raffle with great prizes and again ALL money from this will go to the Ambulance Service. So please do as much as you can to support the Midlands Air Ambulance Service, the committee and the Captains over the weekend. The seniors’ competition, the men’s competition and the ladies’ competition are open to all members. The entry to these competitions is via the BRS, which is now open for all three competitions, so please log in, click on and sign-up. All three are stableford format, with a cup for each winner. For example, the ladies are playing for the Straughton Salver. We have the traditional Captain vs. President match on Sunday morning with the Plunkett Salver mixed event on Sunday afternoon. Entry to these will be via sign-up sheets so please ask in the Pro Shop or keep an eye on the section noticeboards. We have the fun 6-hole par-3 competition running Friday evening, along with chipping and putting competitions running all weekend. There will also be a BBQ on Friday evening included with the par-3. Friday evening will see John Gallagher running his casino tables and new members Ian and Janet Ludford will be providing musical accompaniment on their Cellos on Sunday. Sunday will see the presentation of all the prizes won over the weekend and this will follow a buffet lunch. Very importantly, don’t forget, lunch on Sunday will be provided free to all who play in the main competitions.

Deer Park Five With a day of free time on their hands the greenkeepers managed to do a bit of the continuous improvement plan that was produced by the STRI visit in 2017. The bigger greenside bunker was located directly under several oak trees that are on the Wyre Forrest, this meant little natural light got over the bunker plus it was always full of tree debris. This made it a tricky and often unfair bunker shot with the lake direct opposite it. It was recommended to keep the smaller one and fill in the larger one with a run off point. This will still make it a difficult chip shot but simply fairer to the golfer. The area has been over seeded and will remain GUR until playable. The outer rim of the greenside lake has also been tidied up making it appear bigger to the eye.

Ditched Bob Price and Sons were also on the case clearing out the ditches. Over time they become overgrown, but they play a vital role in the winter and during periods of rain. The drains pipes on the fairways lead into these ditches therefore having them cleared allows for the water to flow into these freely and stops them getting blocked. Plus, for anyone that does hit their shots into the ditches, when cleared it is easier to find your ball!

Men’s May Stableford With the competition at the weekend being a Stableford rather than a medal, people were a bit more upbeat about the 18 holes they were about to play. Some very good scores came in as a result of this! In Division 1, 4 players managed to beat their handicap. This included John Swithenby who finished 2nd with 39 points. |
This wasn’t quite enough to catch Jack Severn, who scored 40 points, meaning he finished 3 under gross! I think the biggest thing that helped Jack achieve this was his Albatross on the 4th Badgers! That’s a score of 2 on a par 5! Jack’s great score sees his handicap return back to scratch!
In Division 2, Stuart Flello also scored 39 points to seal 3rd place. A man in fine form at the moment, Mark Greenfield, finished with 40 points, after a great front nine on Badgers, to finish in 2nd place. However, to win Division 2 this weekend, you would have had to somehow come up with a score better than 46 points, as scored by Rhys Short! A lot of people had a good front nine, but then struggled around Deer Park, but not Rhys! 23 points on each 9 made sure that Rhys finished 6 points ahead of 2nd place!

When it comes to purchasing golf equipment there are many factors that you need to take into consideration. One such factor is your shopping destination, so here are just a few reasons why we should be your number one stop for all things golf. |

It's our custom fitting ethos that really separates us from buying elsewhere, which is something you really should take advantage of. | |

Two of the latest iron models that are proving very popular with our members are the Titleist 718 AP1 and 718 AP3. The former is Titleist’s longest and most forgiving iron, while the latter takes the distance of AP1 and combines it with the workability of AP2 for a very versatile package that we think you'll love. The great thing about Titleist's range is that we can easily mix and match across their iron models, allowing you to have easier-to-hit more forgiving long irons at the top of your bag, with more workable forged irons lower down. |
