Hello one and all, what a bank holiday it has been, we saw a lot of white legs turning red over the weekend. It makes a change seeing some golfers’ tan marks as opposed to golfers’ rain wear! As the picture below shows, the patio is looking spot on with some new furniture, it’s the ideal place for a drink and a spot of lunch. Please note we are now onto summer prices. There have been small increases throughout including nine-hole rates and guest rates. Contact the Pro Shop for more information.

More Course Furniture We are delighted to confirm that all the new tee signage is now out on the course. Deer Park was installed on Thursday. All the new sponsors have also approved artwork, these will be added to the tee signs shortly. New bins have been added, looking much tidier on a black pole to match the tee signs. There are 3 on each nine. The final bit to be added is ball washers, the old ones have been removed and 3 will be added on each nine where a new bin is. Keeping things nice and simple where there is a bin, there is a ball washer! It is not stopping there, we have more ideas in the pipeline/production line! Watch this space.

Top Gun James Wins Again Glorious weather welcomed the golfers on Sunday for the May Stableford competition, with a good turnout and the course starting to firm up a good score was certainly on the cards for a number of players. Steve Barker, who you will regularly see up the club practicing, played a near faultless round with 21 points on Foxes Run and 19 points on Badgers Sett to set an impressive target of 40 points for Division 2 players to try and beat. Mark Greenfield, Tram and Dave Moore all returned 36 points, but it wasn’t until form player James Whitehouse returned his card would Steve’s score finally be beaten. After a shaky start James soon found form with 19 points on Foxes Run and 22 points on Badgers Sett to shoot 41 points and take spot in Division 2. James has now seen his handicap reduced from 20 to 18, which I suspect won’t be the last reduction he gets this season.

In Division 1, Steve Lau shot 37 points thanks to a nice par on the last, but was to fall one shot short with Greg Shorter and Dave Gordon both carding 38 points. Dave took top spot and secured his place in the Champions of Champions Championship on count back after a sublime back 9 of 22 points. Also, a special mention to Martin Bedwell who carded 37 points that included a hole in one on the 5th of Foxes. This was Martin's fourth hole in one and first at Cleobury. Martin wins himself a nice Hugo Boss watch from HowDidIDo and a bottle of champagne courtesy of CMGC member Nick Kimberlee. Pictured here is Top Gun James Whitehouse.

Mixed Winter League We all know this has been one of the worst winters for many years and among its victims has been this season’s Mixed Winter League. So many rounds were cancelled that it was not possible to put together a meaningful league table. So, on Sunday 29th April, Deborah Fearnley, who runs the Mixed Winter League, decided to run a simple one game shoot out to find this year’s winner from the men and ladies. A good turnout as always saw some great competition for the top places, together with a couple of nearest the pins thrown in as well. |
After the golf, the kitchen staff served up the traditional end of season dinner for all to enjoy, after which the winners were announced. Nearest the pin for the ladies was Lynne Pinner, while Andy Johnson took the nearest the pin for the men. To beat Andy’s shot would probably have needed a hole-in-one it was so close. Third place for the ladies was Sian Hawes with 34 points, second was Helena Nash with 35 points, while this season’s ladies’ winner was Chris Perry who shot a great 37 points. For the men, third place was taken by Andy Johnson with 34 points and second was Garry Hawes with 35 points. The men’s winner, who didn’t read Deborah’s instructions, was Deborah’s very own Jamie Fearnley with 37 points. (Yes, the men and ladies top three places scored exactly the same).

Let’s face it: we all want to hit the ball further. Being able to hit longer drives gives you less club into the green, making everything that little bit easier. There are many ways you can try and generate more power during your swing, and nearly all of them start from the ground up. |
Trust your footwear Despite his small frame, tour star Rickie Fowler is renowned for his power. As you can see in the three images above, he pushes off from his right foot through impact and relies on great grip and stability to ensure the power his body is creating doesn’t come at the cost of control. Having a strong base is something we should all aspire for. The Under Armour Spieth 2 can help you do this thanks to its unique Rotational Resistance cleats that will give you traction in every direction across all terrains. |
