Welcome everybody! Well last week I said things can only get better and it certainly has. Sunshine and a dry wind has finally fallen here at CMGC. The course has literally been transformed within a week. - Tees cut
- Fairways cut
- Surrounds cut
- Semi rough cut
- Backs of tees and green cut
- So basically dust off the clubs and get on down for a game. Plus buggies are back on!
You may have noticed this past week that everyone within the club, apart from Amy, has been walking around with a smile on their face. We have loved this season as Wolves fans. We all however think it was the arrival of Rafferty that secured promotion! The new lucky charm in his kit with me having a sip of champagne. |

Roll ups and booking online The Wednesday night roll ups are now in full flow and it is great to see so many coming up and playing in them. Simply roll up at any time in the day (although between 3pm and 5pm are busiest). This is a great way to play with different people and also have a beer in the bar after. Now the season is getting busier, I would advise people to start booking competitions online. Again, this is a great way to meet new people and of course get a game without calling the Pro Shop to see what is available.

New Greenkeeper We are delighted to announce that we have a new highly experienced and skilled greenkeeper joining us. Shaun, who was previously at Walsall and Dartford, has over 15 years experience and we are very lucky to have him. Shaun recently moved into the area and got in touch with us after doing some research into the local golf courses. He will be shadowing Ant whilst he gets to grips with his new surrounding. If you do see him please say hello.

Quiz Night A big thanks to Mike Wood, Marilyn Wood, Sian Hawes, Garry Hawes and Jamie Fearnley for successfully hosting the Quiz Night on Friday 13th April. With 40 people testing their knowledge on a range of subjects, it was founder member Dave Jinks and his team who took top spot in a closely fought contest. The Quiz Night was well supported and was in aid of raising additional income for the members’ funds. The committee have been working hard with planning social events to help raise extra income for members’ funds, if you have any suggestions on social nights that you would like to see up at the club please get in contact here. |

Player of the Month Congratulations to Lesley Buchan who was recently voted Player of the Month at C.M.G.C. In testing conditions Lesley shot an impressive 38 points in the Ladies Stableford competition at the end of March and also helped her team take top spot in the mixed category at the recent Easter Open. Congratulations, let’s hope this form continues in to the summer qualifiers.

Under Armour Playoff Polo Shirt With the wet and cold weather hopefully behind us for the season, it’s time to get prepared and get your summer look on! Under Armour are here once again to help you to complete the look! The Playoff polo is UA’s premium shirt, and it’s easy to see how! The shirt contains Under Armour’s well known Heatgear technology, which wicks sweat away from your skin to keep you cool and dry. They are made from a 4-way stretch material that allows the garment to move with your body, to maintain ultimate comfort. |
The Playoff polo is very light, which makes it nice and comfortable. The shirt comes in a vast amount of colours and designs, to meet the needs and requirements of the fashion conscious! The great thing about the Uunder Armour playoff polo is that they can be worn on and off the course. So it won’t be too obvious that you’re a keen golfer when wearing the shirt in public! We have a variety of colours, designs and sizes in stock. The Under Armour Playoff polo is just £45, and for a shirt that can be worn both on and off the course, with this amount of technology and quality involved, it’s a bit of a steal! The first 2 people to buy one of these from will get a FREE Under Armour mug.

Men’s Stableford Division 1 1st – Dean Carpenter (39 Points) 2nd – Steve Lau (37 Points) Division 2 1st – Steve Evans (38 Points) (CB) 2nd – Lewis Hodges (38 Points) Finally we had some decent weather and it was also great to see so many players enter the competition once again! 43 members played in the Men’s Stableford, and with the course drying out nicely, some solid scores were coming in. In Division 2, scoring was fairly solid throughout with Steve Evans and Lewis Hodges both scoring 38 points to take the prizes. Lewis was just pipped by Steve on countback, leaving Lewis in 2nd place and Steve in 1st place. Steve has played some great golf during the past month, he’s definitely found some form! |
In Division 1, Steve Lau shot a respectable 37 points, which led for most of the day. That was until Dean Carpenter came in with a brilliant 39 points! Dean plays off 5, so he shot a 2 over gross around Deer Park and Foxes Run! Hopefully, with the good weather forecast ahead of us, we’ll see next Sunday’s competition as a qualifier! Don’t forget, every men’s individual weekend competition gives you a chance to qualify for the Champion of Champions tournament at the end of the season. To qualify, you have to win your Division in any of the relevant weekend competitions. The Champion of Champions is sponsored by Sam Johnson, and is promising to have some amazing prizes up for grabs!

The changes to the Rules of Golf are fast approaching with 2019 now less than nine months away, so we thought we’d take a closer look at one common rule that’s getting a makeover. |
Change of procedure when taking relief When taking a penalty drop from a lateral water hazard, one option available to you is to drop a ball outside the hazard within two club-lengths of and not nearer the hole. Under the new rule (17.1c), from 2019 you’ll need to use the longest club in your bag (other than a putter) to measure one club-length or two club-lengths depending on the situation. The other alteration comes when dropping the golf ball. At present, you must drop your ball from shoulder height when taking relief, but this will change to knee height from 2019. Let us know your thoughts by getting in touch below. |
