Muscular Dystrophy UK Charity Golf Day Club member Mark Southall is again hosting a Charity Golf Day for Muscular Dystrophy on Friday 1st September. Now into its second year the event is looking to kick on and go from strength to strength for a fantastic charity. A mentioned above it is on Friday 1st September and costs just £35pp. The event is played in four balls and offers team, individual and spot prizes. You will receive coffee and a bacon roll on arrival, cakes after nine holes and a buffet after play. Presidents Day 2017
A bumper field of over 80 players took part in one of CMGC's Major Competitions to support President Tom Straughton. With some great weather booked for the day, everyone got off smoothly with people taking part in both the 18 and 27-hole competitions. Tom Straughton and Ange Gaskell were on the tee between Foxes and Badgers starting as well as giving everyone their bacon sandwich at the half way point! On President’s Day there are a number of trophies to compete for including the best nett scores over 27 holes (Foxes, Badgers & Deer), 18 holes (Badgers & Deer) an 9 Holes (Deer). President Tom always does a Champagne Shot on the 8th Deer Park. This is where there is a circle around the flag and any players that get their tee shot in the circle get a bottle of champagne! This year there was only 2 lucky winners and these were this year’s Captain Bob Lucas and Jez Duffield! Scoring was hot with several players shooting below their handicaps. Adam Cook, Dave Balmer, John Gittens & Matt Fairman all shot nett 68's, however a nett 66 would be take the 18 hole trophy! Winning on count-back was Chris Newman who dropped just two shots on Deer Park with Charlie Edwards just missing out who also recorded a nett 66. The 27-hole competition takes a little longer to find a winner, due to the scores being calculated manually! Again there were some very good scores with a number of players playing to their handicap.Charlie Edwards finished with a nett 99 however he would again just miss out with Matt Fairman taking the 27 hole trophy with a nett 98. The 9 hole trophy was won by Sam Sutton with a nett 32 on Deer Park. Sam who has recently joined the club was well in contention until the 8th and 9th on Badgers caught him out but he composed himself to shoot a great score around Deer Park. It was also great to see so many ladies also taking part in President’s Day. Sue Griffiths played solidly throughout the day and was holding onto top spot for the majority of the day until Beryl Eastwood finished her round and signed for a nett 73 which would take top spot and the ladies trophy. “It was great to see Chris Newman get the win, he has had a couple of 9 hole playing lessons with myself and it was only a matter of time before a score came. Matt, well what can I say, I called it at the start of the year and said he would win some competitions and he has. With two Majors under his belt, could he be the first player in the clubs history to win the Cleobury Grand Slam, especially with The Club Championships not too far away?”
